I asked for the OTD price on a S10 at Romney Cycles in WV and got a much better price (1200 less than at my dealer here in MD). He said that included the Md tax and everything... I have never bought a vehicle out state, does that mean the dealer in WV can/will do the MD registration paperwork for me and the md tags will be mailed to me? Any negatives to buying out of state?Thank you.

I think there's probably a misunderstanding somewhere - I bought my bike there and there was never any discussion of them paying my DC tax. They would have said "That includes WV temporary tags". That will get you 60 days to go through tax and registration in MD.

No negatives for me buying from WV, except doing the legwork to get the bike registered once I got it back here. Yes, they are a few hours away, but c'mon, it's West Virginia, I don't really need an excuse to go riding there... Great guys to deal with too - as has been said more than once here.

Thanks dcstrom, in have an email from them saying that the OTD price inludes md tax. I will have to call them. Did you buy it there because price was lower or for other reasons. Thanks

Last I heard their price was around $12795? If the price you got was something close to that, then I doubt very much that it includes MD tax. Somebody just had a brain fart...

I bought there not just because of the price - it was very good though. Mainly it was because they were up front with everything, they gave me the bottom line price straight off the bat, I didn't have to haggle (and to tell you the truth, I wouldn't have had the balls to go as low as what they offered me! :D). There were none of the BS fees that my DC dealer was asking for.

Quite apart from that they are a nice bunch of guys who've given great service. Knowing what I know now, if I'd had to pay more for the bike I would still buy from them.

Dcstrom, you are correct, 12795 is price, then i guess he calculated the md tax for me eventhough i will probably have to pay it here in md. And yes, that was price from beginning. They dont seem to charge prep fees or if they do is very small...

Maybe we can meet and ride together one day. Thanks for your help.

No hesitation to buy from Romney. dcstrom turned a lot of us onto them and very happy he did. They are straight forward and pleasant to deal with. No games, no BS. If there was a misunderstanding you can be certain it was only that and not an attempt to do something else.

I may be buying another Tenere in the near future and Romney is the only call I'm making. I'm not a fan of the dealers in the Washington area. Including the one 5 miles from my house with a brand new Tenere sitting on the floor. Would not even consider trying to make a deal with them on the bike. High prices, setup fees and tricky maintenance agreements. No thanks, I'll be happy to take my business to Romney and pay them what they ask.

I drove 550 miles from N Georgia to buy my S10 from Romney. When and if I ever need another bike I will deal with Romney first. Price and dealer integrity couldn't be better.

I didn't buy my bike from Romney Cycles, but only because they are too close (~150ish miles) from home. I intentionally went with a dealer in Texas just to have the chance to ride the bike back. My two service experiences at Romney have been exceptional. I don't plan on letting anyone else but them work on my S10.

Hello All,

I just bought a blue S10 from Todd Crenshaw at Romney Cycles, for the price he told me in an email a few days ago.... It's nice to deal with "normal" people at a dealer for once. Thanks guys for your advice. Thanks to this forum I am saving about $1200...

I had 16/43 gearing on my Vee. I believe that gearing was very comparable to the S10. Power delivery is different. The S10 pulls much harder down low, the Vee revs higher. Not better or worse, but different. Probably took me the first 2K miles to get fully adjusted to the differences. Now I'm fully calibrated and extremely pleased with the bike.

Good luck on the sale of the Vee. You're approaching a good time to sell. Or at least I hope you are since I expect to be selling a Spyder very soon myself.

Sail2, we will have to get together one day and exchange knowledge and experiences about bike
Sounds good - just drop a line.

I had a Vee for 3 months, 9K miles last summer. At least the way mine was tuned, I would say that it had more seat of the pants grunt up top, less down low than the S10. Gearing is fairly close. There were many aspects of the Vee that I liked, but there are many more aspects of the S10 that I LOVE. Both are great bikes, but for my intended use, the S10 is a better match by far. I hope you enjoy your new bike, and come to a similarly happy conclusion!

Ivan - good decision! I spoke to Larry the other day, he mentioned they'd sold a couple more S10's, one of those must have been yours.

OT but - Chris and Jon - as a former Vee owner myself, I have to admit to being a little disappointed with acceleration of the S10 in comparison. Even in sport mode, it didn't seem to have the get-up-and-go in the lower gears that the Vee had. I put this down to greater weight and the restriction in the lower gears.

Well.... since doing the mini-fuse-in-the-clutch-switch mod, I've changed my mind. The difference was ALL down to the restriction in the bottom 3 gears. Now it's as quick or quicker than the Vee.

I've been running solely in that mode for a few weeks now - takes a bit of getting used to different throttle modulation, but I'm getting there and now wondering if I'll ever go back to either of the stock modes. Thought about adding a switch, but I might never use it.... OK maybe in some tricky dirt it would be good to go back to T mode.

The thing I miss least is the dip in power just off idle. No sign of it now.

I still think my Vee was quicker with the lowered gearing and PC III I had installed. My Vee would wheelie in 3rd gear. Don't know how much of that was due to whatever weight I had in the top box, but it would lift the front end much more readily than the S10 with or without the mod. That's one of the very few things I miss about the the Vee. Overall the S10 is a far better bike than the Vee, but I wouldn't mind getting a little more on-demand power out of it at some point.
