Whatever Yam was putting on the bike in Feb 2012 is what it was. I'm pretty sure it was the EXP, I didn't pay that much attention.
Just was clarifying on your original post. Your data just confirms what we've been discussing in this thread.... it is the regular Tourances (not the EXP or Next models) which deliver higher mileage than tires like the BWs.

Yes, I was a bit disappointed when the second Tenere showed up wearing the Tourance EXP. I had used the regular Tourance on my V-Strom years earlier and was not moved one way or the other, but I had heard the reputation of EXP was short life. Judging from my experience, the reputation is well deserved. I think the Battlewing has lasted as long or longer than any tire I've tried on the Tenere (right around 7K miles). Since the Anakee II wasn't available, the Battlewing was my top second choice for the anticipated riding my wife will give it.

The Never Ending Tire Thread.

LIke Fred I think the BW gives the best value for the money. Good traction (not great), decent life (6300 - 6500miles) whether on my Vstrom or Super Ten.

The Heidenou K60 and K76, at least on my VStrom's were ... in my opinion ... overpriced and underqualitied. Got about 5,000 miles out of the rear on both models. Both Squared off fast and I did not like the wet grip at all. ONly the Distanzia had worse girp in the rain and wet than Heidenouu.

Tourance was OK. About same as BW but didn't seem any better or worse. So it was a price issue on what to get next.

Anakee 3 on this trip are the best by far. Wet grip was superb in the 2 straiight days of gully washers I was in riding to Star. No slippage at all!! Dry Grip and (minor dirt in the Badlands) was equally outstanding and at high speeds ... still excellent. Best of all, at 4375 miles between when I spooned them on and to yesterday, I still had almost 6mm tread depth in the rear with almost no squaring.

I suspect like the 3 other bikes that were all wearing Anakee 3 when we left (Tiger Explorer 1200), Tiger 955, and a 2013 Super Tenere we will be sticking with Anakee 3's. We all had the same great traction and life over almost identical mileage and riding roads.

So far the BW is working well for me w/3500 miles, it still looks pretty new with not even a flat spot yet which is unusual here in flat-land USA. I typically have an obvious flat spot showing within 2-3k. Of course, I always use Touring mode around here. I think if I had Sport mode on all the time it would be a little different.

On the 650 Vstrom I tried Anakee3s and the rear had almost 11k on it when I took it off and not a wear bar showing yet but close. I'm selling it so wanted a new tire on there as incentive to a new buyer.

On my previous S10 I never got more than 8500 out of a tire - Anakee 2 - and around 5k out of that oem Tourance EXP... A friend sent me his Alaska bound original Tourance after his trip was cancelled so I'll have a chance to finally try one of those. That was always his go-to tire for his GS.
