Mr. Bleu is now at 579 miles and I have to say that this is the first bike of the many new bikes I've had over the years that actually seemed to change its sound and feel during these initial miles. Previous bikes really didn't have any obvious change but this Tenere has become noticably quieter and smoother since its first mile. So last night stopped at parts store and they had Mobile 1 15-50 on sale which found its way to my left pannier along w/some Castrol Syntec gear oil. Pretty straight forward oil change...sure better than the routine on the FLHTC I traded in for it LOL.
Have others experienced this bike being more obvious in its break in results?
....and now you can tell me that it will blow up with that 15-50 in there......

Yes it does keep getting smoother. For the next few thousand miles your bike will really get better with each ride. I'm at around 14k and I couldn't be happier I bought this bike. ::022::

I got mine in august, somewhere north of 9k miles. Wife got hers last week. Doing first service now. Remarkably, her's seems smoother and more refined.

Interesting, and exactly opposite of my experience. My wife took over my Tenere at just over 9K miles. I bought a new one in February. I found "her" Tenere to be so much faster and smoother than my new one, and the suspension was night and day better on hers (both stock setting). No question over time I could feel the new one getting stronger but even with 4K on the new one, the over 10K one was better riding.

Now that I have over 6K on my new one it's pretty much the same as her 13K Tenere. Took longer to get it truly broken in than I expected. I would say it takes until 6K miles to fully break in the bike.

Yea I agree. I'm at 6k now. At 4k it really started to smooth out and it just keeps getting better. No more stalling or sputtering either.

Have to concur on that, I'd say my Super STeed is smoother approaching 9K miles than it was at 4K, it's a real pleasure to ride ::001::

What auto parts store had 15W-50 Mobil1 4T on the shelf? Around here we pretty much get 10W-40 only.

Got the 15-50 at O'Reilly's in Greencastle, Indiana.....was planning on an early second oil change but with that good stuff in there I'm hesitant....maybe just do an extra filter change.

Don't know about the 4T designation...that doesn't seem to be on the bottle??

as per original post.....how many have had any bike change so much in break in?...this is the first for me...could never tell any difference in other bike break in miles

I didn't notice a huge difference in the tenere during break-in, but I rode it 6K miles in the first month of ownership.

On my wife's FZ6, it had a dramatic change from new to broken in. It was so dramatic that I would have bet there was a break-in fuel curve that went away after 1000 miles.......I'm sure they have the ability to make this happen, just not sure if they do or not.
