I'm going to apologize first off it this has been discussed I did use the search function first, but at low speeds like under 10mph while coming to a stop (on pavement) I sometimes feels a light "pulse " in the brake lever is this normal? I just bought the bike about 2 months ago new 2012 so it is under warranty but just wanted to know if it is "normal" or something to worry about.

If you are stopping "hard" you could be feeling the rear anti lock pulsing as the rear tire gets light and loses grip? Bike has linked anti lock brakes.

The linked ABS is awesome....but at low speeds I get a single pulse in lever just before stopping under light braking and it is very intermittent and it does not happen very often. It's not a huge issue just was wondering if it normal.....if not I might have to wait till something breaks so I might have to just....

I get a short pulse now and again. Definitely related to the linked brakes and depends on if you apply the front or rear first when stopping. Read the owners manual...it'll clear things up.

Just for the record...

Let your dealership know (email and call) your concerns about the brakes. This documentation will help if you ever have a warranty issue.

Where in AZ are you? There are a few of us around here that could compare bikes. I can't say I've noticed a pulse on stopping on my 2012...

It did it this morning backing out of the driveway I grabbed the front lever very lightly and I got a light pulse......

Thanks....Glad to know their is other ST owners in the Phoenix area willing to help.

Live in Chandler right next to Fashion Square.....I commute to Phoenix on the ST every day.

It probably would never do it for anybody but me...that is why I hate intermittent problems if it even is an issue.

Mine does it and I'm glad it's not just in my head. Doesn't happen every time, but Occasionally I notice a pulse on the front brake lever. Almost feels like a quick binding of the brake.

Did some searching on this topic, and finally found this thread from last year. My 2012 just started doing this a few weeks ago. Usually early in a ride, I'll get a brief pulse in the front brake lever during light braking. The lever briefly kicks back, as if the ABS is activating, but I'm braking lightly, not nearly hard enough to be activating the ABS. I can also feel a "thump" in the bars when this happens. It usually stops doing it after a half hour or so into the ride. I've checked everything I can think of, and can find nothing wrong. (Steering head, caliper bolts, front and rear wheel mounting hardware, and even bled the brakes.) Braking is otherwise excellent. I just wonder if anyone ever pinpointed a cause. I was happy to see a few others have noticed this, now I know I'm not losing my mind... Maybe just the nature of the beast, and what comes along with linked brakes and ABS?

Edit: Went back and reviewed the manual, and it says this can be felt in the front lever during the ABS self check. But it also says that occurs just once, after the bike is first started. So even though it seems like I'm feeling the ABS check, it doesn't make sense that I'm noticing it several times in the first half hour or so of riding.

My 12 does it very occasionally. Just assumed that it was the linked braking doing its thing.
