Fortunately it's not a safety related issue like the one from several years back when they had an issue with fork separation. This sounds more like an emissions compliance thing. It might screw up someone's immediate plans to buy a bit o'Bavaria, but at least this particular issue isn't going to result in a crash. Sounds like it's along the lines of Harley's production stoppage last summer because they had quality control issues with brake lines.

If you already have a BMW, ride on.

Maybe they were cheating the EPA like the other German brand, VW, and got caught.
This is the only explanation for a stop sell while stating that the existing owners can continue using their bikes with no issue...

No recall, this smells a LOT like VW in DieselGate. Only time will tell if the BMW emissions violation was intentional or maybe an internal goof but I just can't imagine they on their own goodness did this without the EU initiating it through some type of investigation.

Our regulations have to be less stringent than the UK/EU since we still get to have the Tenere because it can't pass EURO 5. Not having a "stop sell" over there where restrictions are tighter, just doesn't make sense.
