Hi a few of us are heading to the fink this year from birdsville . I am trying to find out has any body done the leg from birdsville to MT Dare across the Simpson desert. We are trying to work out how much fuel we will need any help at all please.
Well, it's about 500kms, so you'll need about 30 liters of fuel, if there is gas at Mt Dare Hotel. Less if your speed is below 85 kph or so. Don't pass known fuel for unknown fuel.Hi a few of us are heading to the fink this year from birdsville . Well you dick head it's not about 500 klm and it's not a desperate cry it's called asking for some info. So next time keep your thoughts to your self and stop being a dick headWell, it's about 500kms, so you'll need about 30 liters of fuel, if there is gas at Mt Dare Hotel. This is a very good example of why you should take the time to put your location in your profile. You'd get a lot better response from an Aussie than us North Americans.
Welcome to the forum. Please go post an introduction. Tossing this out as your first post is like some desperate cry for intervention. If you don't know the answer to your question, you should probably not try and cross the Simpson desert.

I will tell you his posts might be legit, but I have to admit mine was not. At least the part about me riding it. Another one of my lame attempts at dark humor. I have been in a lot of cool places around the world as a young man. Simpson Desert was not one of them. Are we sure he's real, and the post is legit?
Really have to question anything you say now. Getting a track record of BS.I will tell you his posts might be legit, but I have to admit mine was not. At least the part about me riding it. One thing I would recommend is to use extreme caution if this is a first attempt at a ride through a desolate spot.
Yeah until it all turned out to be BS.Great detail Chris!
It's not so much what you say but the manner in which you say it. You can be very condescending which comes across as rude and abrupt. I'm guessing you wouldn't be a very good teacher. Here is the problem. I am trying to help you MarkS10. But asking how much fuel you need to go somewhere with very minimal points of reference makes it sound like you didn't look at a map or develop a route first. You didn't ask the S10's range or fuel usage rate, which leave lots of variables unknown. The lack of an introduction post means no one has a clue if you're a beginner or an expert rider or somewhere in between.
From the info given, I stand by my original answer. Meaning you would need to take some extra fuel to make it across the Simpson desert from Birdsville to Mt Dare.
If squarebore is to be believed, 65 liters would get you around the desert on the much longer route. That doesn't make any sense based on the maps of the region and your original statement. But you offered no clarification or reasoning why you didn't think it was 500 kms between the points you referenced. No one can help you if you don't give better information in your question or respond why offered info is wrong.
Intervention is when others give you the suggestion that perhaps you're biting off more than you should chew. If you're going to try and ride the 270+ kilo S10 across deep sand for hundreds of kms, and you're not already experienced doing so, it's likely not a great idea.
Help others help you. Put your location in your profile and post an introduction so that others can help you better and your future posts have context. Just posting to the regional section of the forum doesn't limit the responses you will get.
And btw, if you got upset about my posts here, good luck dealing with ADV. They will eat you alive, in graphic detail.
