Speaking of craters and volcanos, one of my favorite areas is right here in Mojave desert. There are hundreds of old volcanic caves and holes scattered around. This stuff tears up your tires. If you are off the trail and have a simple tip over or fall on the ground, it's pretty much a free airlift to the hospital. The rocks are like thousands of huge razor blades imbedded into the ground.
I was nervous riding my Beta dual sport through this section. The brave and skilled riders were blazing through on the big 1190/1290 KTM's. No BMW GS/Super Teneres were able to navigate this. Not enough ground clearance or suspension travel.
My moto boot soles, gloves and riding gear were beginning to shred after crawling through some of the tight holes below the earth.
