Anybody been through Craters of the Moon in eastern Idaho? I know Mak10 has been. Idaho is a very volcanic state. Pockmarked with hot springs all over the place.
I did a 'hot springs ride' once in Idaho....of course I didn't visit them all that would take a LONG time, but I did a bunch. Was a very enjoyable way to ride/soak for a week.

The caldera popping is an extinction level, non-Greta approved, event. I thoroughly expect it to be shamed into reducing its carbon footprint 50% by 2025.
Oh great, now she'll go stand at Old Faithful and scream at it for weeks. ;)

My wife and I have visited (not on the bike). Very hot and desolate when we went. You have to want to see it, you'll never just drive by and stop. Sorry, I can't access our travel photos right now.
I stopped and grabbed a small souvenir
Somewhat similar old lava fields along 117 south of Grant's NM, (El Malpais).

It is a beautiful area, but like any lava field or dry, desolate area, what time of the year you go can make it more, or less, pleasant to visit. There are several lava field areas in Oregon as well. One of my favorite motorcycle roads is Hwy 242 that runs between Belknap Springs and Sisters. The Dee Write Observatory is right in the middle and very close to where the Pacific Crest Trail crosses 242. LINK

More or less on topic, earthquakes and volcanic activity are pretty common in many areas of the Western US. The Cascade range is full of active volcanos, they are just sleeping at the moment. ;)

We had a mild 4.9 earthquake last night at around 18:53.

Speaking of craters and volcanos, one of my favorite areas is right here in Mojave desert. There are hundreds of old volcanic caves and holes scattered around. This stuff tears up your tires. If you are off the trail and have a simple tip over or fall on the ground, it's pretty much a free airlift to the hospital. The rocks are like thousands of huge razor blades imbedded into the ground.

I was nervous riding my Beta dual sport through this section. The brave and skilled riders were blazing through on the big 1190/1290 KTM's. No BMW GS/Super Teneres were able to navigate this. Not enough ground clearance or suspension travel.

My moto boot soles, gloves and riding gear were beginning to shred after crawling through some of the tight holes below the earth.

Beautiful, desolate, areas, I'm one of a select few that love central Nevada. The Great Basin is a fascinating area.

Royal Star was king of the road in it's day
LOL, you and your bride had two of the more beautiful Royals that Yamaha ever made. Too bad that skill set didn't trickle down through the years.

We had a wee rumbler this morn , 4.3 and 5km deep - just long enough to make you wonder if it was building to something bigger...
