I love it when you guys say stuff like this. Makes all us non-Americans feel loved and included.

Haha, but really, this is an international forum. Let's try to think a little outside our boxes.

::026::

Remember the old bit about no matter how good some girl looks, some previous guy is glad to be rid of her? I tell my kids that we can apply that to our own view of the world. No matter how much we think we have common sense and have our own act down cold, somebody else thinks we're out of our minds.

There are two mods here, not one.

We try to not do the moderating, cutting, or editing that happens on other forums including ADV. People said they didn't want it and we've generally tried to listen. The line is generally when we start insulting or attacking others, usually when guys forget that we're all an occasional a-hole and then hit the "Post" button. (Yup, I can be in that group.)
;)
Because we do need to draw a line somewhere, attacking or insulting other members has almost always been addressed by personal messages. You and the other member both got them, you weren't picked on. We generally don't broadcast doing this so you're clearly not aware of the warnings given to other members and they didn't know about yours till you mentioned it. Assuming we are referring to the same other member and since you said you've not been around, I guess you missed this from the CO UT BDR thread or the reference to it in this thread, above. Note the underlined text:

Without divulging what was in the pms, basically this was to let the general group know things were being addressed.

Something that has changed while you've been gone is that AvGeek and I realized that using no real discipline hasn't always worked. The pm's get most folks to re-read what they wrote before hitting the send button and it's water over the dam. But we've had a couple who've gone back to bullying, attacking, insulting, being know-it-alls, or whatever you want to call it. Because of this, we've brought back time-outs and one member has had his access shut off. We'd rather do this than lose guys like Buelligan.

Folks - We volunteered to be moderators because we really do want the forum to be an enjoyable place and the more active people are the better it is. While we sure as heck aren't perfect, please DO send a personal message to AvGeek or I if you like something, wonder about what's going on, or have a complaint.
My faith has been restored again, thank you Checkswrecks!

"Time out" sounds like kindergarten discipline!!
But I guess we do act like Kindergartners from time to time, we just need to learn from it!!

I think I'm out of my mind a lot about this time of year, for living up here and storing my motorcycle for 7 months every year. My wife thinks I'm out of my ...... ok, I digress. I think it's almost time for my Christmas poem. Let's all be careful out there. Of course, if I receive enough donations, I won't. R ::015::

To add on to what CW has said...I also administer another board for an association. At it's peak, it was extremely active, and also much more politically charged than this forum. Because of that, we had an approach to moderate as little as possible (in order to minimize accusations of bias), but still keep the forum the "official" face of the association. I still use the "least moderation possible" approach, because I believe it works. I have frequently said that I know we are all adults here, but there are times when CW or I need to step in to keep the forum a friendly, helpful place. Sometimes that means we will offend someone; sometimes people don't agree with our actions, but in the end, our guiding principle is the good of the community. We want members to participate, contribute and enjoy the forum. While the core attribute is our bikes, we want to be open to anyone who wants to join and be a member in good standing.

I am cabin fever all the way this year.
Laid off, No job, no insurance low on money keeping the heat thermostat down and it's cold and snowing so little riding unless it's to go do shopping or a meeting when the roads clear to save on gas, I do take the long way ;D!!
I haven't been camping since my rim folded in Moab ::010::!!
But all this is a test for me at this time in my life so I get defensive when name calling is in the air over stupid pride.
Just remember we are all on this forum for fun, make friends and suck the brains of members for knowledge!!

God bless and Merry Christmas!! ::016::

Good post, RB, and I'm sure sorry for your troubles. When you get squared away, and I know you will, better head up north and I'll be only to happy to tour you around the Yukon. Then you can kick on up to Alaska. Wishing you all the best, and right back at you with the Merry Christmas. I'm pulling for you. R ::008:: ::016::

REM, I await every year for your Christmas Poem. I think sometimes we all think to much of ourselves and put to much on what we think and say. If I say something that somebody doesn't like, I'm sorry, maybe it wasn't meant for you to understand the full meaning of what I said. I'm a joker also (even though I have a fractured shoulder, Thanks Patrick!) but, I'm losing what I was going to say.... There is a vast amount of MC knowledge on this forum and a lot of opinions that sometimes shouldn't be expressed. If I offend someone, I apologize in advance and didn't mean to... Oh well Patrick... I am healing and maybe I just need to become a better rider...

Merry Christmas to all.

WEll, OK. You've coerced me into it. You'll get full credit (or blame) for this one. Stay tuned. You've been warned. R ::012:: ::008:: ::003:: ::016:: :-*

Thats all fine and dandy, but this is not a general motorcycle forum, it has a special focus.

Said person in question not only does not own one (probably never has) and has zero positive to contribute regarding the bike. Yet anyone dare question the BMW, OMG he pulls out a laundry list of crap against the Tenere. I am by no means an over the top fan like many here are of the Tenere, but I do get tired thread after thread of the constant BMW salesmanship and yamaha put down which actually subverts the positives members have to say about the bike.

Do as you will, but without a doubt he takes away from the experience of the forum and you should be listening to what others are saying about him.

After all, why would someone who does not own a bike on a specialized forum, does not even like the bike, and apparently does not even ride with people from the forum be doing on said forum.

Not to beat a potentially dead horse, but I've wondered this on more than one occasion when reading certain posts.

I've moderated another site for years and it seems every site has one or more members who very quickly get on the bad side of someone.

This site has the "Ignore " feature in the account setting and as I've not tried it yet, will it not do it's job and leave out the offending poster's posts?

It's now up to Buelligan on what he want's to do, this whole thing was a wake up call.
Glad we don't have an Amsoil Carny guy trying to force feed the liquid gold down our throats on this Forum!! :D

That feature works very well. I use it very sparingly, but it helps me to avoid certain "contributions" to the forum. :D
