Now you are going to curse at the battery nut because the battery is vertical so the positive lead nut falls out. Towards the beginning of my thread... What TenereGUY has been up to... is a trick to fix this with pictures . In short. Take a pair of foam earplugs. Cut it about 3/4 of its length to shorten them a bit. Now compress it and put the nut and earplugs in to the terminal. Your nut will now stay there and be aligned and shoved up so you can easily thread the bolt in.

If they are reversed from the old battery you can still use the new one (provided the battery leads are long enough).

I use a small diameter piece of vinyl tubing to do the same thing.

If you want to minimize battery maint. you should have a battery tender on your bike if you don't already.. I got 11 years on my last battery. I also use a battery sealer spray on the terminals and 242 blue loctite on the terminal bolts so they dont loosen with vibration over time. Especially important if you have crash bars which are a pain to remove to change or inspect the battery.
