I was finishing up a beautiful day of riding in the Texas hill country when I made a rather sophomoric or should I say moronic mistake. I was on a two lane rural road and went to pass about three or four cars. I was going about 60mph and when I got to the lead car she turned left into her driveway. I could not stop. The impact was tremendous. I flew about 40 feet and landed on my back which got broke in three places. I'm ok though. I was back to work in a week. "I'm a chiropractor". My bike is totaled. My Yamaha side panniers where not on the bike and are in new condition with the liners as well. I also salvaged my new excell throttle control which I loved! If you could use either of these items let me know.

I may not be on the site much so email would be best. jeffechols@gmail.com. Ride Safe!

Damn, glad you lived to tell. If the road is marked for passing there, I would think the transportation department should be made aware so they can apply appropriate signage and road markings prohibiting passing.

Yea, you were lucky to come out of it in one piece basically. This is a common accident and I guess the car driver should of checked before turning left to make sure no one was passing, I know I always do whether on a motorcycle or a 4 wheel vehical. The exact opposite scenerio happened to a guy over at the motorcycle tourers forum a couple years back, he was turning left and didn't look when a car was passing and got hit and very nearly killed. Everybody was ragging on that car driver like he should be put in prison. These type accidents are a bad deal either way. Good luck to you and glad you are still around to tell the story to help others be watchful of this danger while passing.

Thanks guys for all the well wishes. BTW I just remembered I have a stock windshield if anyone needs one. Yes I feel like I've been kicked by a very strong mule but still managed to crawl up in my tree stand and go deer hunting this am. Best wishes to all . Jeff If your interested in the windshield email me please., jeffechols@gmail.com

Thanks guys for all the well wishes. I have sold my panniers and maybe able to keep my excel. I'm talking to Tom about modifying it for my triumph tiger.
