A lot of folks install a bulkead fitting to plumb their auxiliary fuel lines: http://fjr1300.info/howto/bulkhead.html
I don't like drilling the tank and was looking for a way to tap into the fuel pump housing like we do on the GL1800 Goldwing. Unfortunately, our fuel pump housing is plastic.
I fhound this link http://www.fjrforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=111178 which has some information about using an Gen I FJR fuel pump to plumb in an Auxiliary Tank.
I purchased a Super Tenere Fuel Pump from China for $99.00, so I would have something to work with while trying to figure this out. I think went searching on ebay comparing pictures to our fuel pump and ordered what looked like a Gen I pump. Our pump is Denso 23P-13907-00 (101952-5620 12V). The Gen I pump I bought is 5PW-13907-01 (101961-7791 12V). The ebay ad said this would fit any 2003-2006 Yamaha R1.
I got the pump. The bottom housing is the same as our pump except that it has a return. Thre is a check valve in the return. The check valve seems to restrict the flow substantially, so I will likely run a drill through it to get rid of the guts. This will give me an open return.
I still have to put it on the bike and make sure that the return doesn't have any interference issues, but I think this is going to make plumbing the aux tank a cinch.
I'll drain the main to about half and then dump the gravity feed aux.
I'm going to be using a 4 Gal Tour Tank with a custom plate that will attach to my Givi mounts. Took the parts to the Powder Coater yesterday. I should be able to switch from Givi Top Case to Aux Tank in a minute or so. Stay tuned for pics.
