Just a thought...... Lyn isn't very tall. With the Tabasco tank up front (I didn't realise you had such a beast), you may still be able to have a wedge-shaped flatbed style tank of 10-12 litres underneath the pillion seat. Even if it protrudes out the back, you could mount the top box on it. Just to maximise the range with 43litres.

Its funny how this thread has drifted here.

Just today I was chatting on a little emailing list with a few Aussies with interests and plans for riding in US rallies: IBR vets Shane Cudlin and Ian "Tabledrain" McPhee and a couple of other guys.

- I was lamenting how my Beemer (F800ST) is off the road all the time and that I'm on eBay looking for another FJR (I gave away my IBR FJR in the US and wrote off my Oz training FJR when I hit a 'roo) or ST1300 (dopey me only just recently found out about the 10,000km service interval) and for sentimental reasons a 1400GTR (like Davo jones had), but that the Kawasaki only has that 6000km interval......
- One guy has a GSA here, but is thinking of an FJR to ship over because of the difficulties with the BMW parts supply and service.
- One guy has bought a brand new GSA in New Mexico (oh, and a HOUSE)
- Tabledrain will be on his older much-IBR-modified R1100RT and will bring it back to Oz for his private museum, but would likely choose to ride an FJR, ST1300 or a Tenere if he was starting now.
- Cuddles is a multi-brand motorcycle dealer and could ride anything - but he chooses the Tenere. ::022::

Hmmm, that's a thought. I think I might like someone else to try it first though <g>.

Sorry, that's my fault. :-[

Why is Ian known as 'Tabledrain' (or shouldn't I ask?!)? Our one overriding memory of him is he never stopped smiling :).

Prior to the 2013IBR the Cudlins sent their seats to the US to be customised. I lent Annette my pillion seat while hers was away and Shane and I discussed the idea of putting a tank under her seat then - then he bought a MIG (I think) welder and went to town on the front tank instead.

Its funny, but I don't know why Tabledrain is called tabledrain, but as you say he is always smiling, so I can only imagine that it comes from a story that ends with Ian emerging from a cloud of dust or huge swampy mud puddle laughing his head off and saying "Did you see THAT hahahahah"

Don't worry about the thread drifting off topic, its all LD stuff to me and I'm glad to see the Wellers here on a Tenere, happy and hungry for more IBR action. ::014::
