Anybody know a good one? Would be handy if there was a iphone app, paired with the website, but not absolutely necessary.

I've used a simple spreadsheet for years. Dates and mileage go down the left 2 columns, with the mfg specified items along the top row. This bike is so similar to the FJR, you could download one from those and modify it.

My factory shop manual always has a few blank pages at the end. I write my maintenance records on one of those pages. It never gets lost.

I'm with this. Or the extra pages in the OM. Stays with the bike all the time, easy to reference, easy to show the next owner if you sell. Updating requires a pen/pencil, not a damn computer.

Sometimes, technology just adds complication without adding value.

Here is a free program that was designed by a good friend and fellow rider , Jason Jonas.
It has many categories and allows printing reports from your info. Very nice program and very easy to use, I have been using it for several years now. I am listed near the top of the page, getting close to 490,000 total miles.

thanks guys

my problem with the computer applications is that I have to remember or write down the details of a service or gas consumption or whatever before until I can get to the computer.

my problem with the manual is that I can't read what I've written half the time - and eventually the manual runs out of space and I have to insert pages or something...

In both cases I have to have easy access to either the computer or the manual.

On the other hand, I ALWAYS have the iPhone with me, it's easy to enter details, it will do calculations for me, and will pop up a reminder when something is due. There's a few car maintenance apps available, none do exactly what I want, but this seems to be the best for now so I'm going to give it a try.

Another thing I have trouble with is keeping track of receipts; also most cash register receipts fade fairly quickly and are useless if you need them a year or two later. Wouldn't it be great if I could just take a photo of the receipt before even leaving the store, and then be able to relate it to a service item? Or take a photo of something on the bike as a notation on the service record? Or scan the bar code on an item to record a part number...

This app doesn't do that :D but something like that is coming soon. Will let you know how it works out.

That's why I simply use the Apple Numbers spreadsheet on my iPad (no iphone). Just press the Numbers App button and it opens to the last spreadsheet, which is almost always my mx log.
I keep pdfs of the owners manual and other documents in the Library.
As for the receipts, using the camera as a scanner is a memory hog but works fine. You can later batch the photos to b/w to cut their file sizes.

I actually do this for my company credit card; they have us use the Concur website (which also has an app) to submit our expense reports, so my photo library on my iPhone is mostly receipts!
