Looking for a place to go and play for a few days after Thanksgiving. Camping and dirt roads. How are the roads/trails in the Apalachicola forest? Not looking for anything crazy. Wondering if it is 'sugar sand' mostly like it is down south. Any advise and info would be apreciated.

I went on my GS last year and it was too sandy for me. I ended just riding the coast over to Cape San Blas. That was a great ride.

Apilachicola not bad, the closer to the beach the more sugar sand you'll find. If you stay north of US 98 you'll be fine. Also think about Tate's Hell, Wakulla, and the Woodville Tract. Mostly fire roads, and you'll need to get the gate pass. Its no charge, you just call the local State Forest service office, tell them you want to camp, give them you information, and they will give you the combination to the gate locks.

Thanks CD. I appreciate it. Just found out that the dates we picked coincide with Open Gun Hunting there. Things could get interesting. Time for some Hi Viz gear me thinks.

TRUBRIT and any others.
I would enjoy some company exploring the area so if anyone wants to get together and ride drop me a line. I also have a friend who owns an older GS that would like to come along.
I dont think its too sandy if you stay away from the beach like the one poster said. It can get muddy though depending on where you are. Tates Hell can get nasty too.

Who cares lets ride!
