I have looked in both the shop manual and the owners manual and have not found any specification for anti-freeze. Will just any automotive antifreeze work?

50% Distilled water, not de-mineralized or tap water.

50% silicate free corrosion inhibited ethelyne glycol. The silicates from the old iron-block engine days will grind away water pumps and do other bad stuff in our engines.
Anymore, what you want is most of what you will find in any car parts store, but DO read the labels. Basically, if the coolant jug says that it is OK for aluminum or alloy engines you'll be good to go.

Pick your poison...I've been using Zerex Asian formula for a while now. None of the bad stuff, pre-diluted and readily available at your local auto parts store.

YMMV

I use Engine Ice, a Powersports-specific coolant made for motorcycles and available at any decent Powersports dealership.

Another big fan of Engine Ice here. Using it in all of my bikes now. They all love it.

It is more expensive, but its better in many ways.

They advertise that it keeps engines cooler. I does mine. Not a ton, but noticeable. Every little bit helps.

One of the HUGE plusses for me is that it is non-toxic. Propylene glycol instead of Ethylene glycol.

If you do go with the Engine Ice, be sure to drain every little bit of your old coolant from your bike's system. Its a really good thing to do a distilled water flush, too.

I buy it in 5 gallon jugs from Amazon. A chunk of $, but its the cheapest way to buy it for me having 5 water-cooled bikes to worry about.

Hope this helps.

Not to mention it holds itself together longer than any AF I have ever used in a bike.
It's time for me to replace mine this spring been three years.
