Hey everyone. Very happy to move here from the Yamaha FZ6 forum! Just picked up my 2012 Super Tenere from the dealer today, brand new with 1 mile on it!
First impressions: the parallel twin is a trip compared to the buzzy 4 cylinder on my FZ6, love it...smoooooooth! I was concerned about the bike's weight compared to my FZ6 but I honestly don't really notice the difference. When I first sat on it, it felt REALLY tall compared to the FZ6, I could only touch with the tips of my toes. I took out the seat lifter (I'm 5'10") and the now it's about perfect. The clutch is much more forgiving than the FZ with its super short friction zone and the gear box (even brand new) is much smoother and less clunky than the FZ. Oh yeah and that seat, wide baby and soft. This is the bike I can finally take on long road trips (which is why I bought it).
OK so now it's time to deck it out. I want hard cases but they are spendy so it's going to be a while before i buy them. What should be my first add-ons, say in the sub $150 range?

Glad to be here and looking forward to learning and taking part in the forum!

Rick

I too just bought a 2012 Tenere ,slightly used with 8500 miles and very little use off black top. I won't be of any use in the add on department as this is my first Dual Sport. My Tenere came with just about ever Touratech add on known to man or beast with the exception of a tank bag. I went ahead and splurged on a Touratech bag. What the heck everything else added on is from them. I have and still am and always will be a Harley owner so Adventure riding is a whole new concept for. Just starting to learn the lingo so looking forward to learning everything I can about this form of Riding.

Welcome from Zurich.
Answer to your $150 question, spend it on fuel, ride it until it feels natural to you then worry about add-ons. ::008::

::004:: Rick! To answer your luggage question, when I first bought my 2012 a couple of years ago, the hard cases took a couple of weeks to arrive after being ordered, but I had a trip planned, so in the meantime, I just used the factory tank bag, which I purchased through my dealer, and a large waterproof bag, the kind used for kayaking or canoeing, strapped to the pillion seat. If you don't have a waterproof bag, just use a regular bag, but put your gear in a garbage bag inside that bag to keep it dry in case of inclement weather.

Cheers,

Bruce
