Hi All!

Wonderful site here. I have been lurking for a while.... 8)

I have been riding since I was 17. I never could afford a new motorcycle, so I got an old goldwing and did a frame up restoration on it and toured across most of america on it.

I lived in Houston for 5 years teaching at an inner city school. I just moved back home this summer with a wonderful woman that supports my riding. After selling the house, I used the equity and purchased a 2015 Super Tenere ES. This is the first new vehicle I have ever owned (cost twice as much as I paid for my truck... ???) I know its an investment and hope to get a lot of good use out of her.

I have 340 mi on the clock now, still trying to rack up miles and get ready to be swamped by farkles.

I am thinking Happy Trails panniers and engine guards, and touratech skidplate. Any interference issuses with those? I think that would be a good start for now. Im really looking forwatd to meeting up with ya'll and learning how to ride the beast properly. I need to learn how to ride dirt as I have done 99.9% of my riding on pavement.

Also, many people suggest and ECU flash... do I need to go somewhere to have this done or is it something I download?

Thanks again and keep the rubber side down!

welcome.
Investment in the conventional sense? No not really.
But your satisfaction with this bike will be most excellent.

Use the search option on the site. Ask Questions.

You have one of the best technical resources over in Ft Worth...Tabasco, aka Jaxon at Ride On ADV.

As far as the flash, yes you can do it yourself (just search on "ECU Flash" here) but most choose to have it done. This requires removing the ECU, and sending it to a tuner (AVC here on the board is one of many resources, Tabasco can also help you with this). With only 340 miles, the motor is still getting run in (most agree it really comes into its own around 3-4K miles), so a flash you do today, may not be appropriate 6 months down the road.

I don't have any experience with the Happy Trails guards or Touratech skid plate. The most popular options for skid plates here seem to be Alt Rider, ACD, Rumbux (which is both plate and engine guard), or go full monty and get one of Tabasco's post apocalyptic "plates" (I can't think of a better word, yet that word is too puny).
