Hey all, I appear to have been struck by the dreaded melting headlight socket. My bike is a 2012 bought from first owner a couple of months ago. I had intermittent failure with one of the bulbs initially which I initially assumed was a loose connection...before I discovered it was a recognised fault.

Anyway, as luck happens, the socket has melted half way through a 2 week road trip. Rather than faff around with the Yamaha recall I need a short term remedy to keep me visible on the road. Am I ok to go to the closest auto parts store buy a H7 connection and install it on my ST?

I've contacted Yamaha re a free fix, however a quick fix is what I need right now.

Sure, that will work. Be sure the contacts are clean and the connection is tight, and if there's any dielectric grease available perhaps just a light coating of that to help avoid any arcing.

Yes, if you look into the historical posts, you'll find that a number of folks replaced the harness that way before the recall. Just replace the entire harness and use a heavier gauge wire, such as 16 ga.
