How long have you had that rack and how many miles of use?Looks like I just joined the AltRider Luggage Rack Stress Fracture Club!
Nordoc? Never heard of it? Do you have a link?Too thin to use those tapered head bolts. A cap head bolt with a wide washer would prevent this, but the top would no longer be perfectly flat.
I run the nordoc rack. Its 3/8” powder coated steel. Heavy but you can stand on it with no issues.
Just over 2 years and 10k miles, 90% of which was on slab, the rest fire roads/easy trails. No stump jumping. How long have you had that rack and how many miles of use?
Not likely. The topcase is usually empty aside from raingloves and a small bag. Less than 2-3 pounds, tops.Any chance a heavily loaded top case may have been a contributing factor?
Omg thank you.I think you are looking for Nomadic racks.
My thoughts are: if a top rack, which doesn't regularly receive impacts, cracks/fails like this. . . . what should be expected from the skid plate(s)? I understood when I got mine, that it was not a hard core plate. But, I'm betting that bouncing off of a curb puts a lot more stress on it, than the top plate receives from anything that people put on it. Unless a person is in the habit of carrying gold. . . . or lead.Think I’ll steer clear of Alt Rider stuff. That’s a catastrophe waiting to happen!
Their mounts appear to be made of soda glass they fracture so readily.I wonder what alloy altrider is using?
Wondering if they chose a cheap brittle alloy to save on raw materials costs. Even a proper alloy mic can become hydrogen embrittled if not processed correctly and cleanly.Their mounts appear to be made of soda glass they fracture so readily.
Seriously, do they have a metallurgist on staff or at least someone they consult with? Alt Rider charges too much for any product they make and to have ridiculous failures like this due to design or material issues - thanks, no. I'd rather spend less money for better products elsewhere.
The Nomadic rack isn't steel it's aluminum too, but it is 1/16" thicker than the AltRider one. Did they used to make a steel one?Omg thank you.
I bought it forever ago and it only has an “N///“ on it, so i was not recalling the name correctly.
No i am clearly just an idiot who has forgotten the details. The Nomadic rack isn't steel it's aluminum too, but it is 1/16" thicker than the AltRider one. Did they used to make a steel one?
