My ABS light has been coming on and off for a few months now and this week I did a trip in Northern Quebec to ride the Trans-Taiga road.
Anyway I needed heated gear for most of the trip and when the ABS light came on the heated liner would shut off and then I would turn the switch for the gear all the way off then back on again the ABS light would go back off for about 1/2 hr till it repeated the whole process over again. Wondering if it could be related to a battery problem?

Try connecting some kind of voltmeter to your battery and monitor it when this happens. Could also be the alternator/ stator. My old ST1100’s ABS would shut down and trigger the light when system voltage got too low. Perhaps the same is true for the Super Ténéré?

how is the heated gear hooked up? Straight to the battery? On a relay?
Goes through a fuse block.

Paul if I had to guess I would definitely do as the previous poster said, check voltage and see if its getting enough current -- I know my bike say's it's getting 14v when the bike is running and but that dips dramatically even when I use my air horn, or when the cooling fan comes on.. your heated gear may draw a lot in a battery that may not handle it. Check and let us know!

What I can’t understand is the light goes OFF when I turn on the heated gear and also the heated grips.

Can you pull error codes for the ABS system through the dash diagnostics function? Should be a saved code if so, even if the light is off.

The first easy thing I would check is grounding.
I’ve cleaned the grounds, one on the motor and the other behind the seat. Is there another one I’m missing?

Well after talking to Patrick he suggested starting with the simple things and it ended up being corrosion on the positive terminal.

Yay! Glad it's fixed! I've personally had many-a-problems with cars/bikes because of pos. terminal corrosion/connectivity!

The only thing better than the new bike feeling.....is the fixed problem for free or cheap feeling! Now you can ride with no worry!

I bled the hell out of the brakes, checked the 2 sensors, cleaned the magnetic pickup, checked front and rear brake switches and it ended up being something simple.
