I'm contemplating an alternate ride to compliment my Tenere..
Was toying with the idea of having another Yamaha or a old Ducati like a 916 or Monster, as all my other riding buddies were riding hypers, monsters..

Yamaha just came out with the new Tmax530...
It looked exceptionally cool in black..
If both the Tenere and Tmax were in stealth black will be nice..
Double Ts in black..

The only setback is the price over in my country and it's 10 years paper..
The new Tmax cost abt USD17,000 over here..
Should I take the plunge??

What's your alternate ride??

A 2008 WR250R. I thought they would overlap more than they actually do.
MY WRR is modified more towards the dirt end, although still street legal.
I've considered a Zuma 125, just because it looks cool and I have no need for a larger engine here. Plus, the Wife wants to try one. I think your idea is a good one. Should be no overlap at all.

The Super Tenere is my numero uno motorcycle, but it’s a big touring bike and that’s what I got it for. An alternative for other uses was a good idea in my case. I wanted something that was a little smaller (size-wise) for daily commuting, yet powerful enough to keep up with the Tenere for my 17yo son to follow me around (or visa versa) when we ride together. I landed on the Yamaha FZ6 Fazer and picked up a nice used 2006 model for US$3,500. Its technically sportbike class, but with a higher bar and upright riding position that I find more comfortable than sportbikes. Not trying to sell anyone on the model, but the idea of an alternative to the S10 could have merit for some like me…and to use the OP’s word, it’s complimentary, not a replacement.

Aprilia tuono is the way to go ::008:: Poor resale in the states makes these a great bargan .
I sold my FZ1 for the tenere . No inline 4's in my stable .

srx's are pretty cool too . This is my 600.

Triumph Modern classics are the perfect secondary motorcycles. I picked up this 03 T100 dirt cheep and the best part was that it was in Maine and my first ride was 1500 miles back to Florida ::001:: Stay away from the zuma , I picked up a zuma 125 and the lack of power was extremely frustrating, the triumph was bought to replace the zuma as my around town cruiser.

Lonely night outside my hotel room in Savannah Georgia on the way home.

I would really like the 1100 Monster 09 model, my wife has the 696 and loves it.

T-Max looks cool and probably more fun to commute on than the S10, and big enough for longer trips... but $17k is quite expensive. If not mainly for commuting I'd probably consider something else...

I had a TMAX and wish I still did. I had more fun on that bike than most of my many others. Fast, great handling, looks , and that automatic. Go ahead and get the TMAX in yellow of course!

My alternative ride is a bit down on top speed and power output.

And this is the alternative to the alternative, for going down to the shops.

Haha you gotta be kidding, couple a pulls and your engine is toast anyways, opps back to the bench. I ran a busa the other day, it wasn't even a race. Besides can the turbo busa even take a turn, this one can and does it very well. I don't drag race, tracks with curves all day long.

Nice attempt, and yes I am a playa ::)

Another vote for a Tuono and an S10. My Tuono is an 03 and it still puts a smile on my face every time I ride it.

Got to keep a slightly upright posture these days.

How about the new Tuono V4?

I was thinking of a classic; Something to use as a runabout around town;

1979 XLH Sportster. Upgraded brakes, including drilled disk. Stock peanut tank with Flat Track style handle bars. Rebuilt stock motor and tranny with Andrews Cams and a late model Keihin CV carb.

Only electrics are brake lights, speedo and kill switch....

Certain part of me is satisfying nostalgia and a return to the "good old days". However, I might get tired of kickstarting and carb fiddling and wish I went for one of the new/old Bonne's instead.

Good looking bike, though.

Nice looking hot rod.. I'm afraid I'd need some shocks on that puppy. A hard tail just won't make anymore.. ::025::

I'm not sure I can do kick starting anymore either....clutch is heavy and tight without a neutral light...have to feel it....one mistake at a red and I'm toast...it was ok when I was 19 pretending to be Brando...it's another thing at 59 pretending to be Fred Thompson

I just read the new Cycleworld mag article on the new big Triumph Tiger. Oddly never mentions the s10 as a direct competitor and VERY oddly lists every single other spec. Except it's weight! It even summarizes it against the BMW GS as a heavy competitor but could find no mention of its weight.
