I hear what your saying but I still don't think that JUST replacing the stock pipe with aftermarket is going to make me fell the power increase.......IMO

That said, I'm saying I would not get the Akrapovic can because I think it looks and sounds better than the stock can.

You would notice the full system (or just the headers) as the main restrictions are with the cats, a full arrow system is about 10% up on power, assuming you open the throttle considerably the difference will be easy to spot.

IMO most people would notice a 5% or larger gain....

They would also notice the surging with the headers, but if you add a full system and get a custom map applied the bike is a very different beast, just look at the torque curves:

80% of those gains are probably down to the exhaust system, but I would not want to run a system that breathes that much better on the stock fuel maps.

I've thrown all kinds of money at this bike with little hesitation, but ~$1k for an exhaust upgrade exceeds even my loose farkling threshold. From what I've read the benefits of the Akra are:

1. Sounds better than stock for sure.
2. Looks better (subjective).
3. 4.4 lbs lighter than stock (big deal on a ~600 lb bike).
4. Adds 3.4 hp and 3.2 lb-ft (according to Akra web site).

Does that about sum it up? For you guys who took the plunge, which of 1-4 above was your main motivation? Do you even notice the slight performance boost?

For the real tuning whores I can understand the full header + pipe + PCV/custom ECU maps, etc., but adding a slip-on seems mostly cosmetic (sound and looks).

For a work of art like a Ducati Hypermotard or BMW S1000RR I could see paying for cosmetic farkles like this, but the Tenere is a bit too matronly to "deserve" this kind of pimping IMHO. Just trying to understand ...
my reasons were 1,2,and 5 - I got it almost new (been on a 1000 miles) for £300. so it made sense for me but I agree its not worth £1000 for what amounts to a pretty exhaust
