Took the S10 out for an early Sunday morning blast, mixed weather, cold winds and dramatic skies. Coming back into London I dropped by the Ace Cafe on the North Circular - for those who don't know it, the Ace was THE place to hangout for the 'ton up' boys in the '60s and is still a major bike/ petrol head gathering, esp on Sundays. Any way today the emphasis was on 'Adventure bikes' and a number of stalls had been set up ranging from clothing [Klim, Triumph,Revitt] to guys specialising in transporting your bike to the Far East or wherever, Metal mule etc - you get the picture. As always the best bit is wandering around checking out the farkles on other bikes - of which there must easily have been at least two hundred! Now I expected it to be a bit of a BMW love fest' but this was ridiculous - the place was heaving with them, some interesting oddities - Dutch guy on diesel 800 3 cylinder [ Mecedes Smart car engine] , loads of 'post- Armageddon' rat bikes which were quite fun, loads of Triumphs & KTMs and one - well travelled - Moto-Guzzi Stelvio. So, what of the Yam's I hear you ask? One gorgeous original 750 S10, a couple of well farkled 660Ten's and only 2 [including mine] Super Tens- the other being a very respectable 1st Edition; all lost in a sea of Beemers!
Weird - I initially felt quite irked but, perversely , then felt quite smug as my pillion and I smoothly meandered our way out onto the main drag and onward. Love my SuperTen and want to shout it's merits from the rooftops, but I can also happily be the oddball in park!! 8)
