My new (to me) s10 has an OEM engine guard, with spot lights attached. I see no need to replace this at the moment. But am concerned about the tank and fairing in the event of a drop.

Can I add further protection such as the Touratech Gurads or the sw motech bars? Or are there other options that I had not thought about.

There are many good engine guards available. I have Altrider engine guards and they were easy to install. They are very strong. I had a 20 mph crash in gravel topped very fresh mud. The Altrider engine guards did not bend.

You can probably add additional crash bars, but they will usually share some of the mounting points, so may require some modification to fit. Look closely at the instructions and see if you can determine which mounting points are shared, and if you think it will fit before buying anything.

The only product that I know will do exactly what you describe is the Rumbux Adventure Products add on bar that has upper side protection for the fairing and radiator and replaces the Yamaha upper hoop. I don't know of any dealers in the UK for Rumbux though. I'm the US importer, but I can't ship to the UK for a reasonable price due to the size of the box.

Yeah, and that OEM engine guard has the bar that runs up the front of the fairing, which complicates things, IIRC

Most of the two piece crash bars will only have potential interference with the side mounting points. The front/center bar should not be an issue, as it's fairly high up. Touratech and most of the others have very nice online instructions with diagrams. Just pick what you like, then check out the instructions for that and go from there.
