ACD skid plate won't fit

I went riding yesterday and kicked up a couple of rocks with the front tire. I didn't like the sound it made. I'm going to ride the CDT in a couple of weeks so it's about time I get off my butt. I took all of my goodies off of my 2012 before I sold it. Resales where sucking and I didn't want to give it ALL away. I put everything back on my 2016 I bought last July except for the risers and the skid plate. Yeah, it's 110+ degrees here but I have an air conditioned shop out back. After looking for a while, I found my misplaced mounting hardware in a box marked "Tenere". Way to go Bob. So I raise the rear end with my trusty 1960's forklift and pull the factory bolts and install the collars. Pretty easy. I'm going to re-work the front mounting system on this thing because I don't like it. I sold my TIG last year but I can use one in a friends metal shop. I tried to mock up the skid plate to see what I needed to do...the damn thing don't fit. The cat is hanging down about an inch too low. I tried to persuade it but no go. No way I'm buying a new skid plate. Looks like I get to adapt front AND back of this monster. Anyone else have this problem?

Second thread this morning noting that the Gen1 skid plate won't fit the Gen2, due to the bigger cat. If you fab up a new rear mounting piece you can make it work. PITA but it can be done and you won't need to buy the new plate.

Front should be OK. If you do start changing, it, be careful that it is not close enough to the old filter to chafe through that.

Coincidentally, I just picked up a used Gen1 ACD plate for my Gen2 bike. Maybe we can have a mod party at your place. I'll bring the adult beverages.

Hey Dean, I finally took some time to mount my plate. I didn't want to mess with making studs. I found bolts at Copperstate Nut & Bolt, but didn't buy them. I made a bracket to permanently mount to the bolts where the studs would be. Cut and drilled 2 bracket extensions for the back side. I have clearance with the headers and cat. I also fit the skid plate so the oil filter is centered with the cavity. If you need help mounting yours, just let me know. Available Sunday-Friday next week. Busy tomorrow.

IIRC, the gen 1 ACD skid plate will fit the gen 2 with an arrow header. Gives an extra 1/2" or so of clearance but does requiring some fitting.

No experience on this one, just a reader.

Ok...I didn't want to mess with studs and a chance of them backing out or over tightening and stripping when servicing. Last summer, I changed oil at a friends house in Idaho while on a trip. I don't like messing with threads on a motor all the time. I only have to deal with threads on a bracket :)

Exactly right, that's the reason for the studs, never worry about over working those threads in the aluminum heads ever again. Once installed and the spacers (crashbars and nuts, nuts and washers, etc) are installed and tightened, the studs never go anywhere. The AltRider mounting plate, a washer, and a nut are right at the thickness of the spacer ACD sends along, works out just right.

Still haven't had a chance to mount my ACD skid plate. How can I tell if I have a gen 1 or 2 version of the ACD plate?

So, if you install the Arrow header you can gain an extra inch at the rear? Relocating of course. Or can one just run the Gen 1 plate and call it good?

Is there a ground clearance gain in the front of also?
