The skid plate showed up last night, and this morning before a ride I decided to slap it on. Weight is about 8 pounds plus mounting hardware.

It's pretty straight forward from start to finish, this video will help if you need it.

Remove the black plastic piece by the oil filter first, I removed the brackets that hold the front of it too.

My workspace, a bit cramped but the carpet will keep from scratching

Up close photos before the start(man this thing looks huge)

To start with, remove black plastic guard, then remove the two 17mm engine bolts that are lower down.

Then put the bike on the sidestand, or hang it(I used the side stand).

Remove one bolt at a time that hold the centerstand in place(why you need to be on the side stand). I had to tap them out with a rubber mallet. Nut is 14mm, back side is captured by a welded tab so just remove the nut and tap out.

Then before removing other side install spacer that has a lip on it. It goes from the center of the bike towards the outside and you will need to wiggle the center stand to get it to go all the way in.

After replacing both center stand bolts this way you are ready to fit the skid plate.

Slide the skid plate under the bike, then install the new black front bolts into the skid plate, and the other set of spacers.

like this

Then lift the skid plate with one hand, and hand tighten both of these bolts into the engine(do not tighten yet) I used a drop of blue loctite on these, but don't go crazy as you will need to remove them for every oil change.

Leave front loose and then fit the long silver allen bolts into the center stand mounts, and through the skid plate mounts.

Place the original nut from the center stand on the inside of the new bolt and tighten up.

Then tighten up the two bolts up front, wheel the bike outside and soak up the beautiful new skidplate that protects your bikes belly.

::026:: I put one on a month ago, a bit fiddly doing it with one person but a beautiful fit and an amazing piece of fabrication. Slammed mine around on a series of trails in Death Valley (we did about 125 miles off road there) and I was more than pleased with it. Highly recommended and a great price. They have had some negative comments about supply/delivery but i go mine right on time as promised ::008::

Who's got the right price on these right now? There's a listing on EBay coming out of Chicago that looks good.

The Mobile One filter m-108 is 2.5 inches same as the stock Yamaha along with a few others on Dallera's tech post. I believe he actually measured aftermarket oil filters and posted the lengths of them all for everyone but the K&N looks a little long due to the nut on the end and comes out to be almost 3 inches. The front bolts are very easy to cross thread (DAMHIKT). I replaced the bolts with studs (sawed off bolts). Problem gone. This is shown in other threads on this forum...

Update on the Mobil1 filter- they have changed it and it is now too long. I went with Mehle.

I use the Mahle filter as well, studs make installing the plate much easier. Especially with Altrider crash bars, you can keep the Altriders bolted down tight and install the plate over the top.
