ABS switch install: HELP!

I installed the Off-The-Road ABS switch kit.

It works, except the Off switch depressed leaves ABS on. On switch turns ABS off.

When I installed the kit, I removed the bike's 30 amp ABS fuse and inserted it into the wired fuse. I plugged the two wires into the ABS empty fuse socket. I then switched the wires, but same result.

How do I get the OFF and ON switch to behave properly?

I attached a couple pics of the kit.

Thanks!

I think the switch you have is a generic on/off engine kill switch. You will probably find it is OPEN in the on position and CLOSED in the off position. I bought a set of driving lights with a similar switch. I think you need a different switch.

What he said.... Most kill switches when "on or run" is really an open switch.... when "off or run" is closed because it basically send the ignition to ground...thus killing the engine. If you have a multimeter or contintiy tester....see if the switch is "open" (no continuity) when in the on position and vice versa for the off...

Err, what was the problem again? You're not going to use it as much as you think anyway, so don't worry about it. 8)

It's just a simple break in the connection circuit of one wire. As others said, it's open or closed, that just doesn't relate to the markings on the switch in terms of what you expected. Buy another switch that is not a kill switch, but just a plain switch w/o markings and swap it out, in the process making up your own "kit" and return the over priced Off-The-Road kit. You can get everything you need at any auto parts store except a nice bar switch, which can be found on ebay by the dozens, just pick the style you prefer. They run around $5.

The company that sells the kit is called 'Off-The-Road'. The kit is some wire, an inline fuse holder and the switch, pre-fabbed with spade terminals on the ends. It's simple stuff that you can do yourself. Don't be sucked into buying their "kit".

They are in Germany -http://www.off-the-road.de/en/XT-1200Z/Electrical-system-Lights/ABS-off-switch-XT-1200-Z.html] http://www.off-the-road.de/en/XT-1200Z/Electrical-system-Lights/ABS-off-switch-XT-1200-Z.html

They are not a bad vendor, I just think this kit is silly and over priced for what you get. The price, converted to USD is $70 and change.

I could make up that kit with stuff laying in my tool box that's just misc. electrical supplies. In Fact, I'll sell you a "kit" for a lot less if you really want one. The bar switch is new, (bonus, not labeled on or off, so it's always right!), as is the heavy duty waterproof Napa fuse holder, 20 amp fuse, terminals and I'll include enough wire to do the job, or at your choice, wire it all together so all you have to do is plug it in and secure the switch and fuse holder. PM me if you want one. ;D

no I dont need one.............

I think it was 2013 I as at March Moto Madness in East TN. I talked to Lt Dan and his son (forget his name) as they had the only other ST there, it was a rental. Some guy from some company in RI showed up, he came in from Chili (I think). He was my age and had done it all, more better faster cooler and more complete than anyone on the planet. I let a lot go as we were sitting around the campfire and the beer was included in the event. My main reason was asking his/feedback on the ST. Besides me being the only other one it was new to me and I have never done big bike ADV before. Well after him destroying the bike as it WAS no BMW I invited him to check mine out, he did not know how to turn TC off and made a huge deal about the ABS. I showed him my MOD, I mentioned how only a few guys had done this as most thought it would damage the unit.

Well he continued his bereavement until we asked him to leave, this was no BMW and it could not run with it or keep up...............

Water under the bridge, well a week of so later here on the ST forum. Not only is it the greatest bike of all time but they were looking for a tester in East TN to try out his new amazing mod. He did not like my responses to his thread.............

Well I jacked this enough. My bad, I had to ask who was selling it. Good MOD, I use it. To the OP, sorry. If you need some help I will do what I can.

It is possible to take the switch apart and move the wires so that works the way you want it to. This may require soldering skills.

Another options is to think if the switch, ABS Disable, as a feature. The feature is ON when ABS is disabled and OFF when ABS is active.
