Does anyone make an ABS shut off mod that can be done on the handlebars? Someplace I thought I saw some company, in Europe, who sold such a device.
Thanks for your insight(s).

Off The Road does sell an over priced kit for that. It's just a fuse holder, handlebar switch you can get off ebay for a few bucks and some wire. Look at their pictures and roll your own for less than $20, don't spend the big bucks for their kit.

All they do is put a fuse and switch inline with the fuse circuit for the ABS. You flip the switch off, no ABS. You still have to turn the bike off to cycle the ABS back on, after flipping the switch back on. It does not just come back on when you flip the switch to on.

If that's all the OTR kit consists of then you would lose your speedo display with ABS switched off. Can't imagine they wouldn't disclose that on their website.

SB, why do you think you'll lose the speedo display? The speedo signal comes from the VSS wire, not anything to do with the ABS directly. Yes, the ABS uses that signal too, but via the ECU. People have been installing these "kits" to shut off ABS for a while. It really is only wires that plug into the ABS fuse to bypass it, then have an inline fuse holder, (since you NEED a fuse, eh?), then a switch inline with that routed to the bars.

edit - Forgot to mention there are three different ABS related fuses, 7.5 amp, 20 amp and 30 amp. Only the 30 amp fuse is what is being used for these ABS off switches. Apparently the others cause issues.

@mrpete64 - Search the site. Several people have installed the kit or made their own. It's easy to do. Most of the comments are about how it works fine, but you still have to shut the bike off before you can get ABS back on, which apparently isn't well disclosed by OTR. The OTR link to that kit is HERE.

Here is a nice write up to another way to accomplish the ABS off switch - LINK They draw 12v power for the relay from the OEM Gen I Aux light pigtail, but you can draw it from many other places on either Gen I or II bikes.

Here is another good write up on rolling your own - LINK

I think I pulled the 20A fuse. It disabled ABS but also the speedo display. Never researched further as for me ABS even off pavement is not any issue 98% of the time. For that 2% (deep sand, single trackish eek!!) I just spin the rear wheel prior to disable and don't cycle the key or else need to repeat.
