ABS off switch HELP?!!?

Did the toggle switch ABS off switch modification and what the hell is going on with this thing!!

so here is what I have.
flat terminals filed down to fit into where the ABS fuse goes, hot and negative wires.
mini fuse on the hot side
wires run up to toggle switch

First time I tried the switch with bike running it worked perfect. turn the switch off, ABS light comes on. Turn back to on and ABS light goes off.

Now... Rolling down the road, switch to off, ABS light comes on then check engine light then TCS light. ABS does not work like it should. Flip switch back to on, ABS light goes off check engine light goes off but TCS light stays on.

Now this is where it gets weird!!
When switch was flipped to off, throttle felt as if it was in sport mode (very sensitive) and the thing has a BIG power increase in low gears. I honestly think somehow the power restriction in 1st 2nd and 3rd gear are removed. This is NOT the same as the hair pin trick in the clutch switch because I did that and really could not tell any difference in true power. This is a REAL difference and noticeable.

So the problem is this....

The ABS goes off like it should but now I have TOO much power and it is unusable in the dirt.... WTF...

Does anyone know what is going on and how I can fix this????
If not I am simply going to run with the fuse pulled out but would like to have the ABS when on paved roads.

For anyone who says the Yamaha ABS just "works" No it does not "work" ::010::
If all you do is poke along on flat dirt roads then im sure it works just fine, but for those of us who ride hills and at speed ABS does NOT work and it will kill you! I have almost crashed twice and my buddy almost crashed his because of the ABS. These bikes need to have an ABS off switch!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yamaha listen to BMW and triumph..... ::010::

Never mind all I got it squared away, was tapping into the wrong fuse port. It works perfectly now...

Yes the ABS does work well but there are times such as steep rocky or washboard surfaces when you need to turn it off. I like to be able to slide the back end also to help steer around corners on fast dirt roads.

Thanks for your reply the fuse was the problem

I agree with the OP that ABS needs to be off to effectively ride this bike with modern off road techniques, which involves a lot of rear brake to bring the rear end around corners. It can be done at any speed, though, not necessarily at high speed. I also turn off TC whenever I am on dirt so I don't get stuck going up washboard, and so I can use the throttle to get around corners.

I learned these techniques here: http://www.cornerspin.com/main.html

I agree about the ABS, first time I rode the bike hard on dirt the ABS scared the crap out of me, heading towards a drop off corner and the brakes are locking and releasing does not work for me. I realize the S10 is not my WR but I've been dirt biking for 49 yrs and when I want to hit the back brake I want it to work not make a bunch of noise.

I understand and agree. I would also like a off switch. It does work very well but I like having full control at most times. I am married so I know I don't have full control all the time. :)

Some can make this 600# bike turn with the rear brake.

ABS OFF SWITCH

Has anyone had any experience with the ABS switch that OTR offers? I have one installed but with the ABS switch in the ON position the ABS light stays on which would normally indicate an error. With the switch disconnected and the fuse back in place the system works normally the ABS light goes off when the engine starts.

It's normal that to get ABS back, you have to cycle the ignition key. If yours is not coming back, (the light stays on, even when the key has been turned off and back on), then either the fuse is bad or there is a lack of continuity in the OTR wiring. (a break in the wire or a bad switch).

It's just a fuse, switch and some wire connectors. Many people make their own and it's been widely discussed on the forum.

Re: ABS OFF SWITCH

Not familiar with the OTR switch, but it sounds like when it is in the ON position, your ABS is disabled. Does it work normally when you have it in the OFF position? I ask because you say that when you disconnect the switch, all goes back to normal.

Re: ABS OFF SWITCH

It should work without disconnecting anything. On means bypass is active, OFF just the opposite, or normal ABS operation.

Re: ABS OFF SWITCH

My ABS off switch is just a motorcycle kill switch. But when it says "ON", it means the electrical circuit is open, and power does not flow - meaning the ABS is turned off. When the switch is cycled to "OFF" it means the circuit is closed, and ABS functions normally. Totally backwards, but it's not hard to remember.

Yes, it sounds like that is what he has and he got confused when he switched it to ON and the ABS light came on.

Re: ABS OFF SWITCH

OTR did not point out that the switch works ass backwards. To me on is on, meaning the ABS is working, off would mean it's disabled. Thank you all for your help. certainly explains why the ABS light stayed lit in the on position.

Think of the switch as a "feature" that you are enabling, or turning on, and off. When you turn the 'feature' on, it disables the ABS. Just trying to help.

It might be possible to switch the guts around.
