Never understod why someone would ride a $20-30K bike and wear a $25 half helmet or no gear at all. To each their own I suppose.

From what I've been told, it's all part of the image. Somebody needs to show them an image of what happens to heads that contact pavement w/o helmets.

I've been working as a medic for 22yrs, on the Isle of Man, seen more than my fair share of riders being being brought in and I concur with you whole heartedly, the standard of the gear you wear does go a long way in saving you from serious injury, I've seen riders come in after a 70mph get of and be discharged after a few hours, good gear saved them, flip side of that same coin I've seen some guys with very serious injuries after a 30mph impact, quite often wearing jeans and t-shirt because it was too warm for anything else or they were only making a short journey to the shops, due to what I've seen over the years the one thing I don't scrimp on is bike gear, I also wear Rukka but that said there's also some really good stuff for less wonga, regardless of how long or how short my journey is I always wear it.

::026:: for AGATT

I commute everyday 55km round trip from the burbs into downtown Cow town. Full Klim gear, and a Airbag hi viz vest. I look like a total dork ::015:: picture of said dork below!
but, the airbag has become like a seatbelt for me. I have harnesses on both bikes. It's heavy, and doesn't let the air flow as well on hot days, but in retrospect, eating my supper out a straw is out.

Alternately, when riding my XC off road, it's full mx boots (5 saves at least and counting) carbon knee braces (saved my knee once at least), helmet, goggles, gloves, chest/roost protector with full arm protection.
The amount of time you bail on a dirt bike, and are exposed to tree branches, rocks and anything else that could hurt you, you'd have to be completely retarded to ride without gear. Yes dirt bikes are light, but 270 LB on your foot, bending it the way it's not supposed to, is still stupid heavy.

If I show up to the lot and say I forget my mx boots. I go home.
Who's air vest do you use? I use a Hit-Air and like it very much, for it's relatively light weight.

Who's "full arm" roost protector do you use? I use a G6 with elbow and shoulder thick plastic. Not the best, but the mesh parts help me wear it, instead of nothing at all. I use the G6 during street riding, too, during summer months. Again, the mesh G6 is cooler than a mesh jacket, and better than nothing.
