In this video I explain what I brought and when I do it again what I would leave behind. Can I get it even lighter than what I say I would bring the 2nd time? Sure, and I may... have to wait until the 3rd time to see. But I think next year we will be going to Inuvik and Tuktoyaktuk. You see no raingear as I ride in my Aerostich RoadCrafter.

I thought I brought a lot of tools, you showed me that I'm a minimalist! :D I weighed my stuff, it was about 80 pounds if I remember correctly including water and a couple meals. I could have easily trimmed 20 pounds off but honestly the ride to Alaska is just a road trip and a passenger would weigh more than that.
Bring what makes you happy and comfortable, if you obsess too much about bringing as little as possible the trip may not be fun. Thanks for sharing!

First time to Alaska and goingvup to Prudhoe Bay. Didn't know what to expect. So I went prepared for anything. Dalton Hwy going over the Brooks Mountain Range in the rain was really sloppy. 500 miles of gravel and some pavement thrown in and I was glad for good suspension. Last 135 miles of the Alaskan Hwy in Canada from Destruction Bay was brutal on the suspension too. A lot of huge frost heaves thst had collapsed once it had thawed. A few you didn't see until you drop into them.

Why did you break your tires down
Everything is explained in my daily posts at Adventuresbyguy.com
But I misread the max tire pressure as 35# on the MotoZ Tractionator GPS tires but it was 39#. I was under inflated with a heavy load and after 6500 miles and at least 1100 miles of rough gravel it had flexed to many times and started throwing off the lugs. Totally my fault as cold mornings the pressure was about 26 and would come up to 34. Just under max. Ah, nope. I destroyed the tires back had to be changed in Iskut, BC and the from finally showed the damage later just south of Astoria, Oregon.

It's true, never know what to expect but then again you can't bring every tool/every part. That sort of stuff is just a guessing game along with a bit of experience or asking others. My trip was pretty good, rained on for two solid days on the way up and found out that my riding suit wasn't nearly as waterproof as it was advertised to be. The replacement over the gear rain suit I bought lasted less than 100 miles before shredding.

I'm ready to ride up there again, let's go!

I ride in an Aerostich RoadCrafter suit. It does the job. All my tools fit under the seat and in my tube. All the weight is fairly low.
I think next year will be Tuktoyaktuk and one of our group is out of Modesto.

I am in the process of reducing the things I bring, I guess I'm a natural packrat.
Hey. I know! I have ridden Goldwings for years and those pull cargo trailers just fine! I even have an Aspen Classic pop up trailer I can tow!
