I've been working on a CB350 'café racer' for the last few years for fun. I poke at it every few months when I have time.. A few years ago I built all the custom aluminum body work and massaged the frame & swing arm.. Now I found myself needing to buckle down and get the seat done. I built the pan and foamed it up two years ago.. I recently visited Tandy and picked up the supplies I needed for the leather cover I had in mind.. I made the patterns and cut it all out.. Drew up a little concept and put it on the leather... I then used some 40 year old leather stamping tools to emboss the pattern I wanted. The 'little bastard' is a throw back to James Dean aluminum Porsche. This bike has a ton of custom aluminum body work to it... Also this bike is tiny and will be a 'little bastard' figuratively and literally when I ride it.. So far I have about 50-60 + hours in this seat. I'm not a "leather" guy.. so I had to test out a few things, its been pretty fun and frustrating.. Did you ever make a leather belt in boy scouts ? This is basically the same thing. Getting it all to lay down and fit properly is not easy and takes tons of time... I probably have about 20-25 hours in the side stitch.

Here is my first test of the stitching I wanted to use to hold it all together..

Then I bought three colors of leather die, Dark brown, light brown, red..

The art work is good, my drawings are still just stick figures. Is that the devil with his head sticking out his butt or perhaps nestled between a pair of breast?

Yup, definitely creative. Creative and skilled. Creative and skilled and bent!

Nice work. :)

Completely came alive after the color, which is well blended.

Can you knit and pearl me a skidplate cozy? :)

Thanks guys..... A few other things I learned in this little adventure.... Tandy leather goods are expensive, and the time involved in a project like this is WAY more than I expected.....

"custom=tons of time, story of my life"...
