I decided to brighten up my ride and add some off road lights to my bike for significantly less than the other HID lights I've seen online. I found this LED flood light system and thought it would be helpful for casting a broad and very bright light in the near to mid range space. I was looking to help see objects in the road and spot potential hazards with enough time to respond when traffic conditions allowed me to use brighter lights.

On install I found them to be too bright as running lights. They weren't lying when they said "off road use only". I thought about wiring them to come on with my bright lights (very possible) or using a resistor to run them at a lower power as running lights t
o dim them a bit (didn't work at 6v). In the end I decided I wanted maximum flexibility and that meant a switch that would turn them on when I wanted them on as long as the ignition was on. I didn't have easy access to a switch on my bars so I mounted a switch from Auto Zone.

I mounted the light directly to my crash bar without an additional light bar. I drilled holes through the bar and simply slid the mounting screws through with a little Loctite
. I then ran wired in a luminated switch with a longer arm to make it easy to hit when riding in the dark. I finished the install by running the wiring though my fuse panel where all my accessory wiring now connects.
Total install time is about 1-2 hours. Total cost about $75 with shipping from Amazon.

Looks great, but kiss your front fender goodbye when you hit a real bump.
Yes you need more than 7 1/2" of clearance. The problem is with using the OEM Engine Guards. Does look good 8)

You might want to rethink the switch position as well. Easier to manipulate the switch with your left hand in traffic but what do I know. YMMV.

In hind sight you can mount the light higher by not angling the drill holes. If you keep them horizontal the lights will stick straight out and give more clearance. I'm not worried about clearance since I don't do off road riding. The advantage of putting it on the right side is I can keep the throttle twisted and not drop my speed. The ideal solution is a thumb switch which I'll be looking for. Any recommendation on a thumb switch? You can see the lights in action here - http://youtu.be/-eZAyfZFX8E

They have smaller, single row, light bars but I like the amount of light provided by these. I measured it and it has 5.5" of travel before hitting the light. An alternative mounting method would be a good idea for those that like to off road but I don't think I'll have an issue with road and dirt road riding. All good considerations and suggestions. Hopefully this will make people aware of an alternative to the expensive HID lights. LED technology is coming into it's own.
