Went through 60000 miles on Super T today. 25600 so far on this trip. Gas, oil and tires so far. It just keeps getting better.

Congrats. The fact that you have basically had to only have regular maintenance shows the S10 is a really solid bike.

Happy Mega Miles!!!

And I thought I was doing good when my Tenere turned 48,000 miles on top of Monitor Pass.

Congrats! Awesome that you are enjoying the bike. I wish you many more trouble free miles.

Did you have your cam chain tensioner checked at your 2nd valve check interval?

If not, pay close attention to that noise on start ups. (or go have them listen to it now)

Going to replace the CCT when I get home in OCT. Fingers crossed that it keeps working until then. Did you notice anything different before yours failed?

Start up rattle got a little louder, but nothing really alarming. If you suspect that, DO NOT CHANGE THE OIL. That extra lag before oil pressure builds can be critical.

It does rattle for what seems like a long time on oil changes. Did your tensioner break or cams just jump time?

Jumped time. Immediately upon start up, after oil change. I believe the additional delay of oil pressure was a factor. The tensioner wasn't effective w/o oil pressure. No idea if it was "broken" at that time or simply defective.

I started noticing a ticking sound upon start up for a couple seconds.
Is this the chain tension-er?
What's the scoop on this? Oil changes worsen the condition?? 35k on mine.

Minor ticking is no big deal. If it starts sounding like nails rattling in a can during start up, have it looked at.

In regards to my oil change comment, when you change the oil, you drain the oil, you drain the sump and the engine. But you only add oil to the sump when adding fresh oil, so it takes just a bit longer for oil pressure to build up. The CCT is tensioned partly by oil pressure. For this reason you don't hear a failing CCT as cam chain rattle once the engine is running, (at idle). The oil pressure gives it tension. Upon start up, before oil pressure builds, it's just the internal spring.

I hear this rattle only when my engine is cold. I have 82,000kms. I am hoping when I change the tensioner at 100,000km this will settle the problem.
