I'm sure there's already a thread about service costs but I couldn't quickly find it....

I had my 2014 ZE S10 serviced yesterday and took it to Padgetts Yamaha (world famous for TT Race bikes) I have known the Padgett company/family for a while and felt confident about getting my service done there.

The bike was serviced in 2 hours and was completed in a professional and very thorough manner. I didn't need a loan bike and was able to get a coffee and view the race bikes that were there ::008::

At the end of the experience I got a bill for £185.50 including VAT tax which I think is a good deal :)

Thanks, what does that come out to be in Freedom Dollars?
On today's exchange rate about $280.00, remember we have to pay VAT at 20% in the UK on most things (well everything that matters).

Not a bad price that Tyke, mine will be in after my forthcoming hol's and I'll be pleased if it's that price ::008::

My 6k service was £192 at an independent, but that also included fitting brake pads I supplied, cleaning the calipers of winter road salt and crud, replacing the final drive oil (I like to replace it each service), and replacing the clutch fluid that was filthy. The similar 18k service without the additional work was £143.

So for the $280, what exactly do they do besides an oil change and knock out a short "Check List" ?
UK is different than the US. They have to have service performed by dealers to maintain their oem warranty. No Magnuson Moss act equivalent in the UK.

In the US, few people take the bikes to a dealer for oil change service. 10k kms or 6200 miles is the interval for the rest of the world, but in the US the owner's manual specs 4k miles, which is just odd.

That's just about like giving the dealer a mask and a gun.
We pay a lot more for everything, basically your cost in Dollars is about the same as our cost in pounds, so taking into account historical exchange rates we pay about 50% - 100% more than you guys for everything....

Clothes

Food

Cars

Motorcycles

You guys even get Triumph Motorcycles about 40% cheaper than I do, and I only live about 50 miles from the factory.

And yes, the dealers do charge 2 hours labour to kick the tyres and change the oil, unless you own a BMW and then they charge you 3 hours labour to kick the tyres and check the oil - and at about $150 an hour

Don't forget the cost of fuel...... at $8.00 (now, was more last year) per US gallon, little wonder we ride less in Europe... ::009::

Current price is around £1.15 per litre which works out around $6.75 per us gallon, approximately 61% of which goes to the government as either fuel duty or vat (sales tax).

My 6k service to my previous S10 was £229.28 back in July 2013!

I'll soon be due a 6k service on my present mount, so I think I'll be giving Padgetts and others a ring.

Yep, and 5% of our fuel is E5 (Etanol) which works out cheaper than petrol plus in knackers your old bikes fuel system too free of charge (don't ask me how I know)

I was pleased with what they did Mike, ask for Nigel to do the work ::008::
