Hello, I got my bike last Friday. After driving a BMW R1200RT 2012, I'm literally in love with my ST
Previously I had some thumper bikes like A Yam TT500 and a TT600. I also had a Norton Commando 850. I love torquey bikes

The ST have the thumper like power with more HP I like. The suspension is also splendid on bad roads we have here
As I'm 6 ft tall, I will probably buy soon a VStream windshield. I also considered the Puig
Also, as the best position on the seat for me is when I'm near the back of the front seat. This position means I would have a better feeling if the handlebars were positioned a littler further back. I'm not sure risers would be the best to cure this situation. I saw adaptors which can position the handlebars back. As I also find the handlebars really wide, it is perhaps great to use different shape handlebar instead of using adaptors but will I have to use longer hoses or cables ?
Any comments are welcome.
Thanks

You can roll the bars back towards you some. Rotating bars back 1/4” will make a noticeable improvement.

I unscrewed them and positioned them so they are angled correctly to give me the best back space.

I used Helibars for riser setbacks, tall VSTREAM windshield and I really like it. I am 6'3" 32" inseam.
I documented a lot of things done on my "What TenereGUY has been up to " thread with pictures.

Enjoy your bike!

Rt has super wind and rain protection. Simply the best
Not affected with strong side wind
Great brakes
Not too much motor vibration
Good stability
Good reliability for the time I had it
Good bike for riding in duo.

Dislike

Not easy to maneuver at really low speed when doing U turns.
Too cramped position for my taste. Hard to standup on pegs with my old knees. (sore butt)
BMW Comfort seat on my bike was... not comfortable
Hard low travel suspension with bad roads can be a nightmare. This is a highway bike.
Motor is too smooth with not enough grunt (like ST has) it is a more revvy motor. HP output is the same as ST
A lot of screws to unscrew do do some maintenance Ex: 20 to unscrew to get access to the air filter.
High price parts if required.

Most of my rides are now done solo on country roads often with bad asphalt condition, rail roads crossing etc.

I don't if you are aware, but on the Tenere if you activate the rear brake pedal first, only the back brake will activate. Makes it extremely easy to make tight, bar lock, turns. If you activate the brakes with the front lever, you get both front and rear brakes. Best of both worlds.

The RT I rode had separate front/rear brakes. The Honda ST had full time linked brakes. And making bar lock turns was not consistent with the brakes being linked. Sometimes there was more front brake, and sometimes it was less. I assume that your RT was similar to the ST.

I forgot to mention that the RT had both brakes linked together so actuating the front brake also made the rear brake working.. I loved and missed that.

Yes, but when you get used to the back only option on the Tenere, you won't miss it.

Always dreamed of an RT but didn’t want to spend double and concerned about the ergonomics with a 34” inseam. Thought my knees would be cramped and with the high seat position on the S10, it just fit me well. So better ergo, cheaper and I am able to service it so big win! Honey, “can I buy my dream RT?”. We know the answer to that

Today, I installed some Rox style risers. This is perhaps the best mod I've done on this bike with the seat level bushings. No more complaint with stock bars.
Early this week, I added a VStream touring windshield . I tilted it a small bit with added plastic washers on the two lower bolts. This was done during waiting makstad adaptor to do a better job.
This is my dream bike. I will never buy again a sport touring bike after buying this one. I now go on bad roads I know without going slower with cracks, holes, train tracks etc. I am 66 yrs old but now feel as I'm 40. Too bad that winter is coming.

I'm 9 years into riding my 2014 non ES, and just about ready to pass 102,000 miles on it. I've never made any adjustments to the ergonomics on the bike, other than throwing an Airhawk on the seat. I suspect that I'm not as discerning about those sorts of issues as other riders; I've always seemed to adjust to the bike, rather than adjusting the bike to me.

I love this bike as a two-up touring platform; I've done cross country trips on this and on a Road King, and the Yamaha is leaps and bounds more comfortable, with way better storage.

The only changes I've ever made to my bikes was a new windshield on the Beemer (OE was uselessly too small) and switched to gel seat on the Honda ST. Looked and felt the same. The difference was it didn't hurt after an hour long ride.
