so I have a set of pelican 1550 caribou side case on my 2012 that I like well enough but my wife has problem getting on and off the bike with them...She has to get on first with the bike on the side stand and I have to do a flying karate kick to mount up...Huge pain in the a$% and she keeps getting her foot caught getting off and almost falling on her head...I think I am gonna shop for a small case or ones that sit farther back...Idea's suggestions ect...

I have the same problem with the Touratech cases. I will somehow manage to get on the bike, then my wife will use the left foot peg to step up onto the bike. But you should look into the Trax cases. I had these before and it was not and issue getting on and off since they sit lower on the bike. Still can carry a lot of stuff (37L / 45L I think) and get on and off easy.

Not a cheap solution, but we're very happy with the Jesse Odysseys. The angled lids give much needed clearance for getting a leg over with no "gotcha" corners. The lids retain decent storage capacity, especially with their spring-loaded retainer that makes the lid like an attic. Another reason I like the Jesses is the rack mounting system that allows for several inches of fore and aft adjustment. I mount it full rearwards when 2-up for passenger foot clearance. Slide it forward when solo for better weight distribution.

Here's a comparo shot with the OEM, left cases.

my 5'1" female friend climbs up just fine with the stock side bags and a 42L Givi trunk.

how are you guys having your pillion mount?

i get on first and hold the front brake and the passenger uses my shoulder and her foot peg to climb up.

Same issue here and it's a tight fit for the pillion to maneuver back there. Adding big spring and add'l ride height on the Penske, short of stature, eligible for AARP and just not as flexible as days past...you get the idea. ???

Our solution that works 90% of the time is me on to settle the suspension, and then pull up to a 6" curb. Extra height makes all the difference and mount / dismount is no longer quite the hair-raising adventure it once was.

YMMV

I'm on the bike and she mounts on left side with left foot on passenger peg. She then stands up on the peg using my shoulder as a balance point and just crosses over the seat with her right foot. Easy peasy....

I have to agree with Chuck B. on this issue. We did a 30, 000 km trip last year around North America two up fully loaded with camping gear and had no issues with my wife getting on. I get on first, hold the bike up right, she puts left foot on the peg, stands up and crosses her leg over the seat. Good luck.

Karen claims to be 5'2" and does like Don wrote. I get on, hold the front brake and brace my legs, then she mounts like a horse.

I spent yesterday as driver for a bike race referee and he is a solid 200 pounder. I can't imagine letting him on first.

Same here. I also have a back rest she has to clear.
