but then watch this to see his credibility (or maybe just watch this one) ::015:: about 25 seconds is particularly humorous.

I found the reviews to be relatively accurate for an out of the crate ride. I am just at 600 miles on a 2017 ES. I like Yamaha, low maintenance and reliability.
The reviews fail in telling the real story. You can get a new ES, out the door for mid $15k, maybe less.
As a larger rider, I found that the seat sucks, hated the throttle response, windshield too short, no crash bars and no racks.
Ok, went to my local tune shop and for some $200 fixed the throttle issue. Big difference! Not a power thing as much as smoothing out the response. Way more enjoyable for cruising.
The seat is actually is too soft and lets your arse push against the pan, at least for my 240lb frame. After several hours it hurts. Also the slant is real and you feel “married” to the tank after 3-4 hours. Maybe this not an issue for lighter riders. But for $250, new Seat Concepts foam is coming. Or, get the custom for some $500+.
At 6’3”, the windshield allows too much Buffeting. Madstad 22” windscreen and bracket for another $250.
Eric’s bars and some racks for another $1,100.
Ok, I am $17k in but now I have a “SUPER” ten for a hell of a lot less than a GS or Triumph. More reliable, lower maintenance costs and more $ for touring and food. And the bike looks good and rides great.
Heavy? Maybe, but for bigger guys, not too much of an issue. But, I like the weight and stability it offers. Feels solid on the highway. No plans for heavy off-roading anyways.
Suspension too soft on the review? I ride around all day in the softest setting for comfort and have no problems in the canyons at normal speeds. Or stiffer if you want, it is an ES.
For lighter and shorter guys, the bike may be fine out of the box. It was probably designed around an average rider to begin with. It looks like some of the reviewers are on the taller and heavier side.
No regrets.
