Very nice bike, however, I was wondering why don't you just buy a real dirt bike and use all your $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$ or EUROSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS to put gas in the S10 and enjoy the Japanese engineering as it comes in a complete package ? ::008:
Actually I have a dirt bike… and farkled as well… :)
I’m using my euros a well to put gas. ::001::
I’m enjoying a lot this Japanese engineering but not as it is OEM… too road oriented, as most of the “adventure” bikes build today, more like a SUV than a proper adventure bike. ::)
But you could be surprised how relative little money I use to modify this ST, I’ve found some companies interested in build some accessories, so they use my bike to develop them and I keep the farkles in exchange… ;)
A friend of mine is looking to change his GSA and he like to have a Super Ténéré like mine, so we make a budget: less than 3.000€ including the skid plate, crash bars, suspensions, exhaust and all the 21” front wheel modifications. Doing all of this still cheaper than a GSA and much better off roader.
The only bike it could make him some doubts is the new KTM1190 but he has lot of worries about reliability, and more being a new model.

An interesting point you have. ::) If a point is what you wanted to make ::024::..... the answer is; why not !!!. because we can ::009:: . and most of all because we just love to tinker in the shed when we cant go riding. for us who love to tinker , one of the most fun parts of adventure rider is to F%^k about for hours on end in the shed wasting huge amount of time on some tiny mod , then test it on a run somewhere , were, we find other like minded tinkers and stand about procrastinating about our last invention. this is the holy grail of adventure tinkering..... 8)
Agree!! ::008::
I know I’m a bit odd. In my leisure rides I’m using the highways only to connect dirt tracks, I’m really bored in tarmac. So I adapt all my bikes to do off road.
As you say, I enjoy a lot farkling and improving my bikes. Nearly as much as riding them!! ::003::

How about we update this thread. Anyone have pictures of their setups?

A decade later most of the documentation is lost to time.

Mine, converted it quite a few years ago with the information I read here. Standard hub laced to Excel rim. Just had to raise the guard for clearance, and increase the rear ride height to balance it out. To me, there's no downside to handling at all. Not tubeless now either.
I removed the horn as it hits the guard with a decent compression.

Very happy with the result.

Hey @VicAdv'er may i ask wich excel rim did you use to convert? i just found an excel 21x1.60 32H (Narrow)
i'm trying to changing my front wheel, but i have some issues in mind, for example the only rims that i've found in excel rims is narrower than the original one...
could you give me a hand to select the correct one?
another question is where can i find the spokes for the new rim

thank you very much!

Hi virtualghost4,
Sorry I haven't got back to you sooner, I'm not on here too often.

I honestly can't remember the specific rim size, mine is definitely narrower than the original. I was a little concerned when the rim width difference came up for me too but it's proved to be a non issue. I wanted an A60 rim but couldn't get one in time for a trip that was coming up. We ended up just choosing the widest rim size we could get.
I'm running 90 x 90 x 21 tires.
Spokes, I have no idea, the wheel was built buy a guy in Melbourne (Victoria, Australia)
