Hello All, this is my first post here. I am about to buy at Super Tenere ES and have a choice between a new 2017 or new 2016. Cost aside what are the differences between the two other than colour choices? I have been told "minimal" but no details. I thought there might be a previous post but could not find one.
Thanks guys, look forward to participating more in the coming months.

Probably just "BNG" I.E. bold new graphics.

With the 700 on the horizon, I can't see big changes or a Gen 3 Super Tenere hitting the US yet.

Pick the color you like.

RicoChet thanks.
BNG = Bold New Graphics.

I own a 17 tenere. there is no difference between a 16 and 17 other then colors as stated. I also had the same option as you. choice between and 16 and 17. I went with a non es in ceramic ivory color as im from Canada.

Enjoy your new bike. Im 30 years young and love this bike more then my last bike I had. A naked bike. Im also doing a trip to Oregon next friday too, should be about 3000km trip for me.

Cheers.

TheCouzin780 thanks. I look forward to getting back touring. I bobbed and rode Harleys for 20 years, but now that I am 60 I want to tour with something more comfortable for long runs. I will bob an EVO some winter in the next year or so for a bike to ride to the coffee shop, but for touring around Canada and US I think the Super Tenere ES will be outstanding.

Thanks for the info. The OR coast is outstanding. I took three months traveling down highway 1 in 2010, go a hundred miles and stay for 3-5 days and repeat. Loved Port Townsend, and Portland is worth a side trip, as is Crater Lake.

Have a great trip. Cheers.

Gotta wonder if the mapping was changed. If so it would be fine tuning.

Tomatocity thanks. This is my first electronic bike, does Yamaha to firmware upgrades and pass down the upgrades?

I recently looked at a company that upgrades the ECU. They had a different upgrade for 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017. Just guessing but that made me think that those years were different from the factory. Someone else chime in if you know the answer.

I know my '17 has full power below 3000 rpm. At least in "S". From what I have read here, that has not always been the case. "T" does feel "soft" off of the line though.

There actually is some changes from 16 to 17
Some things might make a difference in the long run.
New cam chain tensioner
New Dash and cover
New air pressure sensor
And lots of other little things.

They changed the CCT again? I didn't know that. I wonder what the upgrade was?

I've just bought and taken delivery of a new 2017 Cat4 emissions S10.. Previous bikes were category 3.. all new, sold bikes in Europe have to be Cat 4 after June 2017

I had a late generation 1 before that was written off..

I've done around 600 miles .. the bike is a lot quieter than the gen 1 and gen 2 bikes... Even with the GEN 1 ECU swap.

No cam chain rattle or noisy clutch basket...

Appears to be very economical, I ride normally rather than sticking to running in procedures re bikes and i filled up yesterday with a flashing bar and zero on the range... Managed to get 18 litres in at 230 miles.. So a 270
-280 tank range over the 220-230 of my old gen 1.

Ive fitted Tracer bar risers and shorty levers for comfort..

I have done about 2300 KM on mine 2017 EURO 4 model.
The fuel Avg KM/L shows 21.7 at the moment ::012:: about 51 miles/gallon. (all km/miles until now)
Can't say anything about the noise, because this is my first S10. And it is a lot more noisy than my previuos Transalp ???

But I can tell you, that the general opinion here, is that it isn't a new generation, only a EURO4 tailored 2gen.
Some parts I thought was new, have the same parts number....

My bike is from 16 and already has the new part number for the CCT. Yamaha factory changed it (Ref.#11) before the 17 model as you can see on the link (wich is related to my bike S/N):

http://www.yamahapart.com/oemparts/a/yam/5626462887a86602c84a3145/camshaft-chain

EDIT: WJBertrand explained me that I misunderstood the above information. Sorry guys. His answer:

[ I think you may be misinterpreting the information at that link. That link actually tells you your bike has the old part and that the part has since been superseded by the new one, hence the cross out. This cross out applies retrospectively all the way back to the very first model year and they certainly didn't come with this new tensioner. If your '16 had come with the newer part it would be listed there as the new part number without the old one crossed out like the '17 models are:

http://www.yamahapart.com/oemparts/a/yam/5829e3da87a8660fdcbc0148/camshaft-chain. ]
