2015 ES rear spring - are there any drop in replacements?

I've read what I can on here over the course of time and am not really finding a straight answer on this one. I am 225lb and it is obvious (to me) the OEM spring is a little soft for those with my particular gravitational challenges.

Does anyone make a direct drop in replacement spring for the ES? I don't want to get into machining shims or collars or anything other than taking it off, changing the spring and reinstalling. If there is not a direct drop in, are their shops (in the US) known for doing what is necessary to beef this thing up?

It works and I can ride it just fine (even two up) but really should have a little more strength to it.

I think Race Tech had a drop in spring but I’m not sure the part number. I went a different way with an Eibach spring and spacer.

Thanks for the info! Are the spring and spacer off the Eibach shelf? When I search their site I only get hits for fork springs. *EDIT* I was on the setting for Fork Springs! :) I'm guessing I'd just reach out and ask for their guidance then?

Racetech actually has a nice calculator telling you everything you would need for your style of riding and body weight, but I think it is currently set up for the standard 1200 and not the ES model. I sent them an email. We'll see what comes back! If there is anything useful I'll definitely post it here.

The eibach spring didn’t come with a spacer. It’s actually intended for automotive coil over shock applications. I got it from Summit Auto.

For the spacer I got a drawing from a lister named Karl (IIRC) in Australia and had it machined.

I have a 2021 ES and the same weight as the OP…….I bought a Lust Racing set of shorter suspension jack up links. It completely changed the rear suspension for the better……stiffer, more compliant, and lost the sagging, stinkbug look. Plus, the bike is easy to place on the center stand now. Takes 15 minutes to install and lube.

That may be one option, except I am 5'10 with a 30/31 inseam. :)

Here is the link you need to read and you can see what I and others have done. Tabasco on here is a vendor and apparently used to have spacers so maybe contact him if you go that route. The Eibach springs are much cheaper than the Racetech ones and the spacer method seems to work out better mathematically with travel etc but that is another thread you can search for. Don't believe anything Racetech tells you about the ES. They have been corrected by myself and others on here that the springs both front and rear are different and they still don't get it. Heck the ES fork springs are even different lengths.https://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?threads/s10-es-rear-shock-racetech-srsp-6022-series-direct-replacement-spring.19121/

Thanks for that link. I think I had started that thread some time ago and go completely turned around.

It looks like Racetech does offer a drop in (6022) spring, but many prefer the spacer method. Either way, I think I have a direction to go.

What did you find was the easiest method to remove the rear shock? I obviously don't want to get into the hydraulic system, so want take it out as a unit. Pretty much do all my own work on vehicles and, over the years, come to understand the first time I do something I will typically do it in more steps than is necessary. So, this time I would like to limit any unnecessary disassembly if I can.

Any order of operations, tips or tricks?

A stiffer spring will also raise the rear….the Lust links merely raised the rear where it should be. My 2015 standard S10 did not sag like my current ES did. Where are you at in Missouri? I am only 20 miles south of St. Louis, MO in Waterloo, IL if you want to sit on my bike.

Thanks for the offer, but I am southwest MO - though I used to live in St Louis in my younger days. I actually bought my S10 not far outside StL at a home near hwy 44 :) Rode her back home 3hrs in 100 degree July Missouri heat, whilst running a fever with what turned out to be Covid. That was a day, I’ll tell you!

I unplugged the electrical connectors from both the pump (under the small cover on the right side) and from the top of the shock. Remove all the wire hose and cable guides. Unbolt the lower linkages, the top bolt on the shock and the remote reservoir. Once you wiggle the shock out the right side (it’s tight in there) the pump, shock and remote reservoir can all be removed from the bike together without opening the hydraulic preload or remote reservoir lines.

I bought a new 2023 S10 ES last week and traded in my 21 S10 ES. I swapped all of my accessories onto the new bike from the old bike including the Lusk Racing 20mm jack up links for the rear suspension. I can state with all certainty that the ‘23 definitely feels like it has a much stiffer spring installed than the too soft spring on my 2021 bike. I checked the online part numbers on the Rocky Mountain ATV site which does show an updated rear shock assembly for the 2023 S10. I’ve only ridden the new bike 400 miles but will probably switch back to the stock links in the next week and see how things work out. Just some FYI on the previous soft rear spring issues on the ES models of the S10.

I have a 2022 S10ES and weight 260 pounds. My 110 pound wife rides with me quite often so I was wondering which springs I should order to compensate for our weight? Thanks in advance.

and the Eibach spring a 2.5" ID???

Does anyone have a link for the rear Eibach spring? I've looked and cannot find anyone actually selling it.

0800-250-0550 is the part number of the one I used. 8” long, 2.5” ID, and the last number is the rating in Lbs/in, in this case 550. I bought the spring online from Summit Auto Parts.
