? Why?
The AGM battery on the S10 should last several years/Kmiles before needing replacement. Many european owners with 2010 Tenere still have they original battery on the bike...

I hooked up my battery tender to it and now it is fine. I usually replace the stock battery after a year or so and put the most powerful one I can find in as a replacement. The last thing I need is a dead battery in the middle of Kansas, on a trip to California, at eight in the morning when I come out of a motel room.
I also remember two old mechanics telling me that as batteries age they sulfate out and short out the plates in the battery which then makes the alternator run..and run...and run. Hence, the battery goes dead...and a month or so later the alternator is shot.
Thanks for taking the time to answer my question.

The stock battery will probably outlast you. Never have a problem getting 6-7 years out of a battery on any bike I've owned. ::012::

Down here in the desert, we're lucky to get 2 years out of a battery. I think I was even luckier and got 3 before I had to replace it.

Pete, I would have a look at the Odyssey then. Same technology as the original (AGM) but extremely durable, powerful and... heavy! ;D
I had one on all my flat twins (Old airhead have weak charging system and very demanding Bosch starters) and never had a problem.
One of my Odyssey had its voltage going down a bit after 3 years. I contacted the manufacturer to try to have an explanation, and they shipped me a new one at no charge. A couple of months later, I realized that my voltage regulator was doing free games and putting very low (7 volts) or very high (17 volts) tension on the battery. :-[

Hmm... All I got was clicking this morning when I went to start my 2014ES with original battery! Damn, it's supposed to be 65 here today!

It's on the battery tender now and well I have faith that it will start later.

History: around 35,000 miles on the bike/battery. In the past always kept it on a Battery Tender Jr when at home. My Battery Tender Jr died about two weeks ago (new one on order). I had a 2012 Tenere' that I had to replace the battery at around 8,000 miles. Then it was good until I sold the bike with 80,800 miles when I got the 2014ES.

I believe I will be replacing it with a Yuasa YTZ14S. As said in other posts here it's the same battery with more CCA! ::026::
