2014 ES to SA?

I'm thinking about going to SA with my nephew and his son to SA. Am I crazy for wanting to take my ES on this adventure or should I think about getting a used 650 V-strom/KlR? If any of you have gone on this trip on your Tenere I would like to hear your suggestions or...imputs.

I am assuming SA being South America? A couple of guys here have done it on theirs. I wouldn't even think/consider about that trip on a KLR or 'Strom.

DCStrom/Trevor retired to rie his Tenere home to Perth Australia from here in Washington DC. He did about a lap and a half around SA. Old Git Ray and Karen brought theirs from England to ride 2-up.

A buddy just wrapped up his South American tour, 3rd or forth season, a month at a time, I lost track. He did it on a DR 650. Saw absolutely no need for a larger displacement bike.
