High Beam Wire

After looking over all the posts on the site I did a little digging to look at various options for tapping off the high beam wire for my IQ-275A LED light controller.

I pulled off the right headlight cover and found the suggested PINK high beam wire others have posted and suggested about. (See Photo Later)

I then pulled off the right side battery cover and top plastic cowling looking for another high beam wire tap off place.

I believe I found the high beam wire under the rubber cover in the top area tried to use the OEM Service manual to verify it but had no luck.

So out comes DVM

With the key on and engine not running ...

I get no voltage at the pink wire in either the high beam on or low beam on handlebar switch positions. No surprise as the high beam light is not on without the engine on.

With the key on and the engine running

I get 13.8 V + with respect to the battery GND on the PINK wire with the High Beam Switch on and the High Beam shinning.

I get ~ 0V on the PINK wire with the LOW BEAMS ON

QUESTIONS

The battery Voltage is 14.2 V DC with the engine running
.. The Voltage at the PINK wire is 13.8 V DC ..

Is the 0.4 V DC drop typical ?

I think that voltage drop is normal considering that the circuit is on and experiencing a load. With no load you might see full battery voltage but most circuits when in use will measure some level of drop compared to battery. I must have done something wrong (or the 2015ES is different) because when I tapped my pink high beam wire it appears to powered oppositely to yours. When I put the meter on the pink wire I found it was hot on low beam and off on high beam?

Anyone else find that?

What model year and model (ES/non-ES) does this apply to?

I unbolted the left instrument cluster, found the wire for high beam, traced it back to a connector just above the battery inside a rubber sheath, the connector had an empty slot so i bought a pin and inserted into the empty slot and installed a jumper wire between the high beam pin and the pin i installed. The new pin i installed was wired to the aux light relay. More details here

Update:

Above DVM and wire information is on a 2014 S10 ES (non California version)

Spent some time cleaning up / Soldering / heat shrink tubing / Tie Wraps .... some of the wires from the USB connector, Air Horn and Garmin Zumo .... Then moving on ...

After slicing a slit in the the black "rubber" sheathing over the 6 wire connector (wires) I opened enough room to access the pink wire mentioned above.

I used a posi-lock electrical connector to attach to the pink wire to my Screaming Banshee Air Horn with and added LED accessory light.

All works well ... now that all is cleaned up I have room to run the many wires from the IQ-275A with 3 position + horn button switch .... more to come but happy have a cleaner system to work with ....
