Went for a ride last weekend and the cruise control would not set. Hit the ON button and it was blinking. However got up to speed pulled the clutch, turned the key off, waited till the display died. Turned key on display cycled, popped the clutch and running. Immediately hit cruise ON then set worked fine. But after a stop sign taking off it blinking again.

I have Yes but would like to stay away from the dealer. Any idea what to check?

Huh? You did all that while rolling down the rode?

Yea, I have a few things you should check. LOL
First, your mirrors before you do that.

I know who taught you to try to solve all the worlds problems without even pulling over to stop. :)

Ok snake I did stop first and did a power cycle. Cruise came on solid, but by the time I got up to speed it was blinking. I had a 10 year old with me at the time, and not a busy road so not a problem to do the moving reset. Actually did it 3 times.

I do not see how it could be brake or clutch switches since it will stay set once I get it there. But I will take a look.

Definitely need it back before Romney.

I was just messin with ya.

Don't listen to me anyways. I'm just one of those gen1 die-hards that is jealous of anyone with cruise control.

I'm thinking I can actually retrofit it someday though.
All I need is the engine, the ecu, the wiring harnesses, the dashboard, the wheels, the sensors, and the brakes from a gen2. Right?
I'll keep my frame.

But I enjoy your messin! I always listen but do not always pay attention.

Romney will be GREAT for me. I've been away too long.

You're coming even without cruise control, right?

I heard all my parts (oil pump) have come in, so I have no excuses. :)

Planning on it. Have a room at koolwink. Will do half way or so on the slab so a running reset is a piece of cake. And I have time to get it fixed.

Just wish Romney was after Memorial Day. Wife and I will trailer both bikes to see Jaxom where we will leave Honda Pilot, trailer and S10 on Friday. Tenere to be lowered and maybe more.

Will take the Indian to our daughter in Austin. Ride the Sisters then back on Tuesday.

Texas Bound!!!!

Enjoy the BBQ while you're here.

Gonna get that bike Jaxon-ized? Crazy stuff happens to Teneres when he babysits them.

My 2015 es did the same thing. I put hose extensions on throttle body's to drive over to a buddy's house to check sync. Rode there and back with that cruise control light flashing. Got home noticed there was a code can't remember if it was fault code 13 or 14. Well the air pressure sensor on left side didn't like that longer hose and was sensing a vacuum leak. Removed extensions problem solved. Check for codes and vacuum leaks

I added some adjustable pegs which made it more difficult to reach rear brake pedal; I adjusted the pedal -- apparently too much -- and my cruise became intermittent or inoperable as you are describing. I went back to the stock pegs, adjusted pedal accordingly, and voila, cruise worked perfectly again. Maybe you messed with pedal height at some point? Not sure if that's related to the brake switch or not, but could be.

Odds on it's your rear brake light switch that needs adjustment. This usually happens when the brake pedal height gets adjusted, without cutting the light switch enough slack. All seems OK when the bike is on the stand. However, get on the road with some weight on board & you will find that, after using the rear brake pedal, the brake lights will flicker or maybe even stay on, despite the brake being released. This condition stops the cruise from setting correctly.

In your case, it sounds very marginal, so a small adjustment for the switch, to reduce sensitivity, should sort the problem.

On my wife's '14 S10 the rear brake light switch failed at around 20,000. No obvious problem and adjusting it I was only able to temporarily fixed the issue. It was replaced under extended warrantee. Problem resolved.

I will definitely check the clutch and brake switches before I take it to the dealer. I do not think that is the issue since it works after a rolling reset, but I have been wrong before.

And I have to fix it since Limey wants me to stay home from Romney if it does not work.

My cruise started not engaging last week but didn't have the blinking problem, cruise would just not set. Bike has almost 50k miles. Long story short the brake light switch doesn't fully retract after using the rear brake. I ordered a replacement today and needs to be shipped from Japan so I should see it in a few weeks. I'd suggest to you to try and push the brake light switch toggle up with your hand, there's an audiable sound when it's activated /deactivated with the ignition on. Then take bike out, don't touch the back brake, and see if cruise works. If so I'd replace the brake light switch. Hope this helps
