Could anyone tell me how the grips work?

Does the bike deliver a constant voltage to the grips of 0 - 12 volts depending on how hot you want them?

Reason for asking, thinking of fitting Oxford grips to run off the on board computer. The Oxford grips and controller sends 12v to the grips and 'pulses' the supply on and off depending how hot you want them. Small pulses for warm, longer pulses warmer, permanent 12v at full power.

If the S10 will deliver 12v at full power then I guess they'll work...

Any ideas?
Thanks, Chris

The factory heated grips come with a controller, so I would say it is constant +12V from the bike. Otherwise there would be no need for the controller rheostsat.

The heated grips on the 2014 and 2015 are controlled from the upgraded dash, rather than the rheostat that was available with the kits for the 2013 and earlier models.

Oh, ok. Thanks for filling me in. I'm new to the Tenere, dealer was trying to sell me the ones with the controller. I'm glad I know better now.

Another question, does that feature automatically come up when you add the new grips, or do they have to flash the ECU?

Thanks

Ok here is what I know.

Yamaha grips have a resistance of 1.5ohms.
Oxford adventure are 7.0ohms.

The installed wiring on the 2014/2015 with Oxford grips fitted gives a max measured output of 3.8v depending on grip setting (dealer did this for me).

So in terms of electrical power, standard grips will be 9.6W. The Oxford grips will draw 1.9W therefore they only get lukewarm.

So (in the UK at least) it looks like Yamaha grips are currently the only way to go as I haven't yet found an alternative....

They will come up automatically when you plug them in, no flash required.
