I obviously know what the total retail of my bike and accessories cost, but used prices seem a little flat for good used examples. Unfortunately due to dodgy joints I am no longer confident in taking the weight of my lovely XT.

I will add some pictures in due course (when it's dry enough to take some) but here is the spec so you get an idea. Any advice on what price point I should be aiming for would be good as I guess it'll probably end up on a popular auction site unless someone here shows any interest.

Thanks
Chris

Have a look at what some are being advertised at, and go from there. My opinion, if you want to look at it or keep it then mark it for similar prices that you see, if you want to sell it mark the price down so it shifts, sometimes your first offer is your best offer. All the extras are nice, but consider how much more a dealer will give you for those, not a lot! Better off selling them separately, if you are so inclined to remove them or expect little difference in your selling price to a stripped down version. Also, there is no right or wrong time to sell a bike, just wrong time to ride one. Just my 2 cents, fyi, I owned a motorcycle dealership in the UK. Bikes that are a bargain / good deal are not on the site for long............

If you decide to take off some of the accessories I would be interested in the carbon exhaust shield (worldcrosser), rear brake master cyl guard, pivot peg mk3,rear brake reservoir guard please? PM me if that becomes the case. Thanks.

Good luck with the sale!

Start stripping bits off ::008::

You should get 50%+ quite easily on most accessories, especially popular easy to fit ones, I had £2500 of bits on a bike I sold a couple of years back, made about £1500 for the parts - and sold it for a mere £300 less than the best offer I got if leaving the bits on, so £1200 for a morning wielding spanners and a couple of trips to the post office.

Although I need nothing, I expect some stuff on your list would tempt me if the price was right.

Chris,
If you want to sell it now, think of a price you will be happy with and post it on here, you may be lucky. It may not sell until the Spring though, or not at all, if the price is unrealistic.
For a bigger market, stick it on eBay as a classified ad, which will only cost £15 for 4 weeks, you will probably get mostly banal questions, but you need only one genuine buyer.
Or, as others have suggested, take your extras off and sell them separately, leaving you to sell a bike that does not stand out from all the others for sale out there, as it does now.
Unfortunately, how quickly you sell depends mainly on the price. You could also offer to PX for a smaller/lighter bike, if that is the way your going. Good Luck john

That is a lot of bits.

How about picking out some really easy to remove stuff and trying to sell it here, and maybe remove any high value items, even if they may not sell quickly you will get a much better return.

This would still leave you with a well farkled bike to sell and give any potential buyers some good extra VFM if choosing your bike over some others, just remember most buyers will not be interested in all of this.

A tall screen, winglets and heated grips are going to be desirable to most people and not worth much / fiddly to remove so leave them on.

End cans are a thing some folk want and others avoid - but that is going to be real easy to get a good return on by selling separately so pull it off.

The Sat Nav and mountings may well be desirable to someone here, maybe myself if the price is right, I don't need them as I have a setup, but I think yours is much better so at the right price - and someone else may well find it more valuable to them than me.

I would imagine the Yamaha guards are pricey new, and possibly easy to sell here so why not have a go?

Everyone (most people) will want the engine guards and bash plate - but do not forget they will still compare your bike against bog standard ones when shopping, this is what I have had time and again, some dickhead arguing about a bike lacking £2k of extra's yours has is £250 cheaper, and if you then want to start pulling bits off (i.e. £500 of panniers) he seems to think the price should drop £500 so your bike is now still £1500 up on the standard one but he wants it for £250 less.

So also flog the luggage (really easy to sell luggage on E-Bay / Forums) and maybe some of those Altrider bits and pieces.

Then after clearing the easy stuff advertise the bike with just a few nice farkles, and when someone comes to view you can barter a bit and offer him the remaining bits for a good price, or throw something he likes the look of into the deal.

Just my opinion of course, but I can see how much you have invested into this bike and know from experience that you are going to be taking a fairly large hit at best, and if flogging it with everything still on will be absolutely mugged - which is also OK if you can afford the hit and can't be doing with the aggro of messing around.

Good luck ::008::

Thank you all for your comments, and all those that pm'd requesting parts... ;D

I agree that I'll be taking a big hit either way, I never thought this would be an issue as the XT was meant to be my 'forever bike' when I bough it new, while bike No.2 was meant to be the 'weekend' bike. Fortunately I hadn't got as far as purchasing Bike No2.

I haven't made a firm decision to sell, I popped into the garage at the weekend but couldn't bring myself to start pulling it apart. I agree with you that returning the bike to standard with just a few choice accessories left on will be the way to go and I promise to offer up any parts here first. I couldn't believe the amount of extras I'd added, this was the first time I'd listed them all in one place.

Rasher, I get your comments about people haggling over the price using the retail value of accessories, I'll probably do all the accessories first then advertise in the state I mentioned above with minimal choice accessories.

Depending on how things go it has been discussed that returning to standard to p/x may be an option. I'm getting help with my knees, elbow and lower back so may be able to manage something lighter later in the year.

I have until the end of June to decide as that's when all the Insurance, Tax etc is due.

Thanks again ::008::

Good luck with everything.

I am sure there will be a bike out there for you if the S10 has to go, I really enjoy riding the V-Strom commuter on the nicer days and the Mrs TDM900 is a joy to ride, tested a Tracer last summer and that was great (but not really my cup of tea) and a few years ago I rode a Verysy 650 and found it great fun, IMO most bikes are fun and I would rather have a smaller lighter bike than none at all, but for now will enjoy the Behemoth I have.
