I sat on one today and was less cramped and forward bent than expected. Got to thinking what a cycle thats about 400lbs dry with 167 hp would be like to ride. Anyone here know?

Fun but totally impractical. I had an R1 before the S10 and I did 4000 miles in 3 years. I did twice that in the first year on the S10. The R1 was great for a short blast but I very rarely actually went anywhere on it. If you want to do over 100mph everywhere (the R1 did 100mph in first gear) and you can avoid towns (it was really hard work in towns cos it didn't like going 30mph) then it's fine but for anything more it's just not the right bike. Great for posing at local bike meets though :)

Corvettes and most Porsche's are impractical, but thousands are sold each year for track days and appreciation of their performance. Just wondering if anyone here has ridden this particular V4?

Haven't ridden the Ape but I can tell you what my 465 lb with 162 hp Diavel is like. Friggin Awesome! Very addictive.

I rode it on two separate occasions. I was seriously contemplating replacing my 07 CBR600RR with the Tuono, but ended up buying the S10 instead. It was a combination of things, mostly fear of Italian things and the need for a bike that will go more than 100 miles on a tank and get better than 30mpg.

But, I have to tell you, I came so close to buying the Tuono that I surprised even myself. I would have one now if the current/recent price reduction was occuring when I rode it. The bike is magnificant. The sound alone is worth the price of admission. I've ridden a lot of bikes, but the Tuono V4 is hands down the most amazing sounding bike I've ever ridden. Even stock, it's loud, ballsy, and just plain awesome.

I think I got the very complicated APRC stuff to give me the right TC, wheelie, and power levels to let me sample full power safely without the fear of huge wheelies. By the end of the second demo ride, I was comfy enough to aggressively launch the bike from a red light and hit WOT to 60. It sort of takes the challenge out, but the quickshifter and the absolute speed mitigate the lack of challenge. Otherwise, the bike is as you'd expect. Stupidly fast, very slick, and with excellent (if not on par with Ducati monobloc) brakes. Sadly, no ABS.

The bike always seemed to be running into the TC/Wheelie nanny when I was caning it, but it was relatively unobtrusive. I could watch the lights come on as I went WOT in 3rd gear. And I could see the lights flash as the front end came up minimally between shifts. Anyway, it's a beast, but it is so easy to ride. I made a point to ride it like I usually ride when just bombing around. It's smooth and easy to ride slow. The power from low rpms (not lugging) is fine and the bike appears completely content to just cruise around.

Outstanding review and appreciated. I rode a Speed Triple yesterday and found it fun but not explosive. The Tuono dealer "have no demo" so just sat on the Tuono. Thinking of adding something to the stable but just tire kicking for now...

Thanks Mc, been all over that forum. Reminds of this one in many ways.

Sat on a BMW s1000rr, K1300s and the 1600GT. Will take them for a demo over the next week....the hunt is better than the kill sometimes.

I wanted to buy a Speed 3 and demo'd one when I owned my 1st gen FZ1 (jetted/piped). I recall feeling very disappointed by the S3 engine after all of the hype in the mags. I got right back on my FZ1 after the demo and found the FZ1 to feel faster from bottom to screaming top. The S3 sounded nice enough, but the much cherished 'flat torque curve' is another way of saying it is faster than it feels. I'd rather have a bike like my SV or a car like my miata: feels way faster than it is. Funny thing is I rode both versions of the Sprint (1050ST and the new touring ST replacement) and found them to be the same way. Suddenly your going 80mph, but you never got the hit of acceleration. Fast, in a boring way. Also, FWIW, I loved the Street 3 and thought it felt much like my SV650 with a 20% hp increase.

A friend had an older Tuono and set it up for LD riding and rallying. Bunch of mods to the bike, HID headlight, something about combining the turn signals into the headlight and was running a single small pannier on one side. Pretty sure he had some seat work done too, but the point was he loved it. It can be a comfortable bike to go places on, if you're willing to accept it's limitations in weather protection. He ended up selling it due to financial issues, (got RIFed), but always said it was the most fun bike he'd ever owned and the one he missed the most.

If I could have just 1 other scoot - it would be the Aprilia Tuono.

I've had a coupla friends that have older generations of the bike and they swear by it.

I sold my Speed Triple last year April - and I miss that naked riding.

Get me here - I am in mad love with my Supa10 -

but there's something about that V4 that whispers LOUDLY to me.

I love the shape and the whole package. ===bow/wow===

loved the look of the bike at the show, but it's a lot of money to spend on something impractical.
I bought an abused 98 cbr900rr, and began working on it.
Performance wise, it's more than i'll ever need. Jet kit, yosh pipe, about 125hp.
It's my shits and giggles bike

Never had a chance to ride a tuono, but if they don't stop making it by the time I've paid of my super tenere, it'll be my next bike.

One of my other bikes is a Buell 1125, 145 HP and 370 lbs. Wicked fast, easily the best handling bike I've ever ridden.
I've set it up for sport touring since I traded my ST1300 in for the Tenere. The Buell does the job, and I have no problem doing 600 mile days on it. But like most sport bikes, there is no serious weather protection.
But it is still an awesome bike to ride...
