Ever since I've had the bike it seems to start slower than any other bike I've owned. But over the past 1 or so it seems to have gotten slower at the 1st press of the button, but it always starts. I've gone to 2 new batteries and recently had the valves checked, but still has done the same. Well today I turned the key on, put in neutral, all lights and instrument panel well lit, hit the start button, heard the relay on the right side click once, but nothing. Lights didn't dim a bit when you hit the button. Guessing the starter may be bad, but figured I'd throw it out there to see if anyone else has had this issue before and were able to solve.

Before you toss money at this, have you tried to jump start the bike?

All Gen I Super Tens have that slow start. Many upgrade to the heavier battery, YTZ14S which is the same physical size, but a higher CCA rating. It's a noticeable improvement.

If nothing happens when you hit the start button when jumped to a known good car battery, it may be more likely that the starter button has an issue. Or the solenoid, rather than the starter itself. Both of those are cheaper than the starter.

I put 109k on my '12 and never had starter problems. I did replace the battery twice, one defective, then to the YTZ14S which was still going strong at that time, so I moved it over to the '15 Super Ten I bought and put the new YTZ12S into the '12 when I sold it.

Check the battery cables at the battery and the starter relay. My 13 model had a loose (or maybe not so tight) connection at the starter relay when new. It didn't cause a problem until about 12K miles.

Sounds like the Starter Relay switch, the one with the 2 fuses on it on the RHS panel above the battery. really cheap if u get it on-line.
