Hi all. This is my first post on this forum, so go easy on me. ;)

I currently ride a 2004 Suzuki DL1000 and thinking of upgrading. The 2014 DL1K looks nice, but for the price, a barely used 2012 Tenere could be purchased with all the hard bags etc.

Shaft drive might be nice for the kind of riding I do (mostly longer trips and camping etc). I find chain maintenance to be a bit of a pain on the road.

Just curious what you all think of the 2012 model year? Are there any issues to look out for when purchasing?

I will keep perusing this forum.

Thanks for any information.

As a former DL1000 & 650 owner you'll love it. It has all the good bits of the Suzuki (good riding position, good engine, economical) with the added benefits of shaft drive and better build quality. Do it ::008::

You will be happy with a Tenere . Another one who moved from an DL1000 and am very pleased with my 12. If looking at a 12 there were 2 minor recalls. One for the fuel pump to tank O ring and a short headlight harness within the head light both done by the dealer at no charge. Just good to check and make sure they both got done. Just need lots of fuel, and tires after that.
The DL was good, but the Tenere with the shaft drive and ABS were the two main selling points for me. The better brakes, suspension, traction control, and finer road manners were just nice extras thrown in with the deal. Find one, and enjoy the ride. ::004::

There have been several reports of noisy and failing CCT's on pre '14's and many report excessive clutch vibration on the pre '14's. The 2014's have an updated cam chain tensioner(cct) and clutch basket to address these issues. There's s a lot of info on these issue, have a look around the forum.

Pull the trigger man.
No regrets whatsever.

I've owned a 2006 DL1000, 2008 DL650, and got a decent ride on a new 2014 DL1000.

The tenere is superior to all of them (2012, or 2014)
The new DL is nice, but more of a road bike, than a true big pig dual purpose.

The Super Tenere of any year is the best, most reliable dual sport out there by a long shot. The price is right and it will go the distance every time. I'd buy another in a heartbeat, but I don't have to!

Great Bike Period. Upgrade to a 2014 clutch basket ($256) and if need be a 2014 Cam Chain Tensioner (around $120) and then you will have a Perfect bike.

Welcome to the forum. I had a 2003 DL1000 for 80,000 miles. My 2012 Super Tenere now has 54,000 miles. Loved the Vee, but the S10 is a lot better. You won't miss the chain maintenance for a second. Go for it...
